Hey there folks.

Ok, sooooo here the issue. installed a stereo yesterday, got all the wires for the speakers hooked up (dash, door and rear), as well as the power antenna (which doesn't extend, but the motor runs....), ground, 12V const., and finally the 12v ACC line.

Power checked all with a DMM for the 12V and 12V acc lines.

Heres the deal. when the stereo is powered (key to acc) the stereo turns on for a couple seconds (doesn't matter if it's CD or Tuner) and then restarts.

Take a look at the video for a good visual. you can see near the end that even with the stereo turned off so it's just showing the clock, it still flickers.

I measured the voltage across the AC line, and it starts at 12V then drops to ~9.4V then the stereo switched off, then back up to 12V, then ~9.4, etc, etc, etc.

Ideas??

Oh! forgot to mention, the stereo worked perfectly in the last car. Right from there to this one.

What brand and model deck is that, and also do you here any clicking in the car when the deck goes off?

What are you grounded to, also you do realize Sony's do have problems occasionally? I personally have had the same problem with the exact type of deck,We just replaced the deck and all was good. My suggestion try it in another car or try another one in your car.

I would try a different temporary accesory wire......Pull the fuse out of the fuse box for "radio", bend a length of wire over one of the fuse prongs, then stick the fuse back in and try that as an acc. wire, see if it works......If it does, then you can just hide the wire under the dash and use it as acc. (I use this method for my radar detector and stereo acc./amp power contol in my Eclipse.)

He said he measured the voltage on the acc. power and it dropped off to 9.4V-ish. Usually I would've said the same thing. Grounds are a problem half the time, especially with a high powered system. The ground is the key, just as much as the power. But since he checked the voltage and it dropped (which it should never do in any electrical system) I voted power. I'm not sure how he tested it, but I'd say he used a different ground in doing a voltage test (i.e. chassis bolt or something)........maybe he can chime in and explain better.....

*cue music...*

Haven't had a chance to play around with it yet between school and injector o-rings rupturing and pissing fuel all over the hot engine... but when testing the acc wire voltage, the multi meter was grounded to the same spot as the deck is now. I'll try moving it around, but like previously mentioned, the deck worked perfectly before. I have another sony that i can swap out and plug in just to see if thats the issue.
Stay tuned, hopefully I'll have an update tomorrow afternoon.

btw, thanks for the input.
