I think I may have an issue with 4th gear on my tranny. I had it rebuilt about a year and half ago by Shep. I had the Stage 2 FWD rebuild with double sycrons 1-4 gear. I've been working on my car since then so I think I've only logged about 500 miles on it. My car isn't tuned so I haven't been pushing it or even going to the track.
My issue is with the 4th gear it seems to just 'drop' into 4th. 1st- 3rd feel great, 4th is not a firm engagement like 1-3 and 5 is. There is no grinding noise when going into 4th. In fact it drives fine after it's in 4th without making any noise.
I did do a A/T to M/T swap. I thought maybe the linkage was the issue, but if it was then why would gears 1-3 and 5 feel like a normal engagement?

I might add that I remember it use to feel normal. It wasn't always like this.

I think I know that feeling you are describing. Have a buddy shift into 4th gear in the car and watch the transmission. Then manually move it into 4th gear by hand under the hood.

There really isnt anything inside the transmission that I can think of that would cause something like this. Sounds more like a cable issue to me, or maybe a loose bracket on the transmission. Check your shifter base to make sure its bolted tight to the car. After all, you did do a A/T to M/T swap, maybe something is off by a tad.

Do you have the spacers under the shifter base? Does the slightest move of the shifter move the cable on the other end just as much? What type of gear fluid are you using? Are the transmission bolts present and tight? Did you install dowel pins on the block?
