Winnipeg,
Hey well i checked for shaftplay didn't feel any shaft play. A little bit up and down. But anyways whenever my car gets warm blueish smoke comes out of the exhaust, this stuff doesn't happen when car is cold. So i'am guessing my seals are done and its burning oil. I 'am guessing you can notice it at idle because car is standing still. But anyways what do you guys think? I'am selling the car so should i get the 16g or another t25? I heard the t25's are crap.... so I need some help guys...

Anyone else think its the seals on the turbo? Smoke comes out when engine is warm and at idle, and its blueish kinda smoke. Yes when you boost and let go of throttle black smoke comes out.

It could also be bad valve seals/guides. Pull your lower intercooler pipe and look for oil in it. If there is oil there you probably have blown seals in the turbo. If it's dry, start by doing a compression test as well as a wet test to rule out rings. If that checks out, you are probably going to want to pull the head and go through it. Also, do you have your bov recirculated or dumped? If you are dumping to atmosphere, that is where your black smoke is coming from when you release the throttle.

umm, if you're selling the car and it turns out to be the turbo, go T25 unless its a 16g in there already. no brainer really :p just my .02 to answer the end of your statement :D

Yea its atmosphere so that one is solved. Can bad valve stems be repaired or be cleaned or is there products that help it? Or just replace the turbo

Pull the lower intercooler pipe and find out if it has oil in it before you go any further to make sure it is the turbo. As far valve seals, you can change them without pulling the head. If it is loose guides the head needs to come off.

Sorry i feel stupid, are you talkin about the valves in the turbo? Or the valves in the engine...., what do you mean by guides.:coy:

I was talking about the valves and guides in the head. The turbo has neither. Like I said pull the lower intercooler pipe first and check for oil there and post back. We will go through this 1 thing at a time.

Took off lower intercooler pipe and yes there is oil in there, fresh oil and some dark old oil. Pretty dirty in there....also turbo runs pretty hot.

If you have a lot of fresh oil in there, the seals on your turbo are probably done then. If you are selling the car, your best bet would be to pick up a t25 in the classifieds here.

Yea my hands were pretty dirty and i noticed fresh oil too. So its the turbo then i guess.... i knew it from the beginning... So are you pretty sure dude? Last thing i want to do is change the turbo and same problem:(

Jking, are you for sure thats the problem..... because last thing i want to do is put the turbo on and same problem.

Do you have any pictures of how much oil is in the licp? Also, I would do a compression test as well as a wet test with a cap full of oil in each cylinder. A leakdown test would be beneficial also. That will give you a much better idea if it just the turbo.

Okay well buddy told me he had same problem and he said it was valve stems. How can i check to make absoultly sure its the turbo or not.WTF

Drive it until it explodes. Shaftplay and more importantly oil in the LICP is a dead giveaway that the turbo is starting to go. If you want to check if the valve stem seals are going then do a leak down test and listen for where air comes out of.

I could pretty much guarantee you its the turbo. The shaftplay and the oil in the LICP is a clear out sign your turbo is gone. Sucks:notgood:

My friend had the exact same problem some play and the licp was filled with oil. We went to play football, and I was driving behind him. All I see was blue smoke coming out his exhaust. He finally got upset went purchase EVO 16G GT. Slapped that baby on no more oil no more smoking. Much more power :sneaky:

If your selling the car do a leakdown test to check for other problems. But I am pretty sure that turbo is going. If its a 16g replace it with a 16g if it a t25 replace it with a t25.

Good luck!!!
