I'm having custom metal body work done, no body kits here. in fact i'm removing the '98 side skirts, already took off my basket handle spoiler. I want to test this on a gs-t and if everything is ok, then I'll buy a gsx and do the same/swap.
- I've read that with a good suspension setup people can get almost 1g on the skidpad, even over that with hoosiers. I think though, that was with 8 inch wide wheels. would you expect improvement with 11 inch wide wheels and maybe 12 inch wide tires? I want 17 btw for less weight, but can only find 18. on the 10.5 (the 11s are twice as much$).
- I suspect the offset needs to be closer to zero to work (esp in front, so it doesn't touch the crank pully). :coy: anyhoo, this is for cornering first but also for acceleration. I'm not worried about the top of the tire rubbing, just the inside. also, i'm worried about breaking various parts due to leverage (weight seems to be ok). thanks for any help, see 3-D renderings in my profile. also, with 10.5 inches how wide a tire should fit? 285?

18x10.5
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Recommended Tire Size: 265/35-18
Wheel Offset: +30mm
** Lightweight: 26.5 lbs. **

what about this one?
18x11
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Recommended Tire Size: 265/35-18
Wheel Offset: +53mm

here's a example of a normal wheel, an 18x8
Wheel Offset: +40mm
** Lightweight: 23.4 lbs. **

A 265/35/18 will need an offset lower than 30mm.

I would not call a 26.5# 18x10.5 "lightweight." You can get OTS SSRs that weigh only 20# in that size.

Thanks for the giggle RE tires hitting the crank pulley. You had me checking the date with that one.

i guess i can use the width and the offset percentage to calculate the offset in mm. so, you're saying more than 30mm from the hub and it will touch the splash gaurds (front and back?)? guess when the rain stops i'll go measure the front wheels' clearance while turned.
- that is light, but expensive i bet.
- so, do you think wide wheels with small offset % (keeping stock inside offset distance) is dangerous? 1 person told me it would be :nono: , but he's only ever had stock wheels  so I'm asking for second opinions. thanks so far. (well at the time I told him 12 or 13 inch wide, he thought it was rediculous)

It's close. Close enough that tire type would dictate necessity for spacers or lower offset wheels.

Sorry, but I don't like the plot (anymore).

A 245/45/16 is 24.7" in diameter. A 265/35/18 is 25.3".

A 245/45/16 V700 just fits on a +37mm. A 245/45/16 V710 or Hoosier needs something down around +34 or +35mm.

There is no way that a tire that is larger and 20mm wider is going to work on a wheel with an offset that is only 7mm or 4 to 5mm lower.

Keep in mind that your plot was created for street tires. R-compounds - which is what we're now talking about - are a lot more "square." It's going to take something down in the +25mm range.

Maybe someone already running 285/30/18 can chime in. My guess is that they are running +15mm or so. I think it has already been said (somewhere) that 275/40/17 likes about +12mm.

Bah, Kumhos with tread width spec of "NA." The V700 225's do appear to be a few millimeters wider than street compound, as you stated. This would probably put that setup a few milimeters into negative clearance.

Shaved maybe?

(See. It still works)

thanks for the info. sounds like I will need a custom offset :( oh well maybe i can get them for around how much those 10.5's cost. ;)
so you guys aren't worried about me breaking an axel or the bolts? can I adjust the camber to give any risky parts longer life?
also, did any1 have any opinion about 10.5s or 11s helping the handling? i would like 12s for straightline traction, but for cornering maybe closer to negative offset (wider track) will be more important than (compensate) a larger contact patch.
