I planning on getting light weight 13.7 lbs. 16" Enkei Rpf1, but should I get 16x7 or 16x8 if I'm going to run the same tires 225/50/16 either I go? And comments which drag radials are better, Falken Azenis RT-615, BF Goodrich g-Force T/A or Mickey Thompson Street Radial.

If you never plan on running a wider tire than 225, get the 7" wide wheels with a high offset. They'll be slightly lighter and you won't have to worry about tire clearance as much. If you plan on using 235, 245 or 255 tires later on, you'll have to have the 8" width and you'll probably need to take extra precautions to ensure tire clearance, but I don't have specific experience on a 1G.

Using a 235 tire on a 2G requires an offset of roughly 45-50 on an 8" rim to tuck without rolling the rear fender lips, depending on the tire -some brands are wider than others with the same advertised width. Wider than 235 usually means a lower offset is needed, along with a minimally-lowered tight coilover suspension, fender rolling and possibly hub spacers in order to clear on both the inside and outside.

As I said, I don't know about a 1G specifically, but I've heard they have less room to work with than the 2Gs.

Hopefully someone with more 1G specific knowledge can help you further, but I'm sure searching could get you to an answer faster.

As for tires, for street use I like Falkens but have also heard good things about the BFGs. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I thought the MTs you mentioned were a much more dedicated drag race tire? What is it you want to set the car up for? Dragstrip only or do you drive on the street?

I'm trying to go for the thickest possible for the sidewall so probably 225/50 or 225/55, but the last I check Azenis and BFG g-Force don't make 235 only 215, 215 and 225.

As for the MT Street Radial, they aren't all rub drag radial. They have a little tread grooves and I think they are legal on the streets.

I don't see myself going to the track often or ever. They don't have many drag strips and autox tracks in Calif. This is strictly street and despite being an AWD car I don't know how traction will be when I finish it this spring. There is huge difference coming from 350hp to 600-700hp.

The ratio of Rim Width/Tread Width should be between .7 and 1. Lower for more comfort and higher for less sidewall flex. See Yokohama for a Yokohama reference. My old DSM fitment links are broken.

Tirerack's specifications also give the recommended rim width for tires.

225 mm tread width is 8.8 inches; a 7 inch wheel would be .79 ratio and 8 inch wheel would be .9 ratio.

235 mm tread width is 9.2 inches; a 7 inch wheel would be .76 ratio and a 8 inch wheel would be .86 ratio.
