is this safe?

I had a mbc that started leaking so I took it out and connected the line just as if the mbc wasnt there... It gets to only 13 psi max and nothing feels wrong. Is it ok to run it like this?

Also I got my timing belt done and it has been running fine, but somtimes during idle it sounds like I have 272 cams or whatever but it is stock. It never used to do this before

1. It's perfectly fine to have the wastegate hooked up like that. It will only run minimum boost.

2. Take it back to whoever did the belt and have them recheck the timing.

So you connected the reference of the manifold to the wastegate? That is called wastegate boost, meaning you will only make as much boost as the wastegate spring will allow. On a stock turbo I would say, yes this is safe. I do not know, however, what turbo you are running.

What does it do if timing is off?

the turbo is a big t28 I ran 20 psi for 2 years no issues

Your boost lines being hooked up like that is not an issue what so ever. I would also have your timing checked, it should not sound like that when you are at idle, especially if you dont have any aftermarket cams.

My timing was off. I was unable to boost much at all and it started boosting way too soon. My car sounded like it had 272 cams when I started it then after like 10 seconds it smoothed out. Before I timed it I was unable to go past 25mph.

ya sounds like base timing. should b 5 degrees advance at idle.

Running without a mbc like that is fine. Recheck timing

Yup thats fine, it will just be set to what the wastegate spring will allow so stock psi. I recommend having someone take a look at the timing once again.

Smartest thing I know to do if have a mbc issue.I tried explaining that to a group of evo guys and they just told the guy to unhook the mbc and drive home and not boost.I was like ya good luck with that your ganna free spin your turbo and walked away.As i knew there where some steep hills to get on the freeway.
