Ok, with the supporting mods in my profile, when I install my Big 16g with a ported o2 housing, would there be a safe boost level to run it at until I get a fuel management system (Dsmlink, Safc, etc. W/ Pocketlogger)? I've got an aftermarket FPR with a Walbro 255 and stock injectors, so I figured as long as I keep at a fairly moderate boost level I would be ok... Is this safe to assume, and if so, what would be a moderate level of boost?

a moderate level of boost would be around 16 -18 psi. :dsm:

i disagree.

i see many people with a similar setup. a big16g with a sidemount. however they have fuel mods such as an afc and 550cc injectors for example. they usually run around 17 psi. anymore than that, their intercoolers cant handle the heat.

its good you have the front mount, but you still cant boost higher because of your lack of fuel supply. since you have only a minimal fuel mod, i wouldnt boost anymore than 15psi. Many people don't recommend boosting over 16psi on 1g with a 14b unless they have upgraded injectors and that turbo is smaller than yours. get what im sayin?

I suggest that until you get injectors, and a fmic, and a safc w/ logger, then 15 psi is a safe place to be. you may be able to push another 1-2 psi, but for safety, id stay at 15 and be done with it.

Get a logger first and adjust the boost setting according to what the logger tells you. I also suggest a complete boost leak test before you start turning things up towards the maximum capacity of the stock injectors if you have not already done so after the turbo install.

Personally I think its suicide to run that turbo period w/o an AFC. Buy the AFC, then buy the turbo.Prioritize your spending.

Whats it matter if he has an S-AFC or not? he's still on the stock injectors so how would an S-AFC do anything.

And for the original question, don't go over 15psi and you will be fine.

Well, I am in need of a new turbo and I just got a great deal on a Big 16g. I'm going to install it and was planning on running 13-14 psi until I got fuel management. I'm interested on your input as to whether it sounds safe enough... I know that the best thing to do is to get a logger, but it's on the way and for right now I need something to get me around. Is this safe enough?

BTW... I'm not trying to discredit anyone who is saying 15psi is safe, I just wanted to see some numbers out of the Wiseman...

I don't like to throw numbers out like this because every car is different, too many variables and there is too much at stake if you get it wrong. However if you must have a number I would agree that 15psi sounds about right provided that every thing else is functioning properly, especially intake leak free. With that said, only a logger will be able to tell you for sure.
