1G Is This "Resurfaced" Head Usable?

Mirror finish surfaces are only recomonded for MLS head gaskets we have surfaced hundreds of decks and heads for years and never once had a head gasket issue even a ery small amount that went the best similar to the op head surface but alot of ppl now all want mirror finish because they all believe that's the correct way.
Dude when you start pushing 40 plus psi you will realize very quick that boost will find its way to the coolant passage very quickly because it has many grooves to take on a surface finish like that.

Dude if your pushing 40lbs of boost you better think about o-ring & recover grooveing the head. I've read a few very good article about what even a MLS can handle plus copper hgs are reusable as where the MLS looses it's crush factor after every torque and we have o rung numerous blocks and heads with the same surface for years my own will be a test to this as well as it will be getting orings not saying anything wrong with MLS but in reality their not the best their costly and I don't feel do much better then composite

Man i have been pushing 40psi on my daily driver for over 2 years and car is still running strong and guess what never had the head or the block oring. In this video if you haven't seen it already was last june car made 728whp 40psi. the 801whp in my profile was done at 44psi. I repeat no oring in the head or block. I built a lot of these engines over the past 13 years I know a little something about how to keep them from pushing coolant for sure.

Here is the cylinder head that's been on the car since april 2013 it looked so good I ended up buying it and putting it on my car and sending another to get the same port job jerry has done about 10 heads for me over the past year. If you get a surface on the head like this you will never have to oring. People oring because they are not getting the surface that should be on the head in the first place to run 40psi. Most guys in the beginning of the dsm game are just happy to have a dsm and will settle for whatever just to get the car to run. But what happens over time is the dsm is addictive and they now after getting use to the car want more power so they start turning the boost up and adding fuel ect..... and now that belt sanded head and composite gasket can't take it. The very next thing they do is , what they should have done in the beginning is pull the head and have a mirror surface put on it and add a mls gasket I have seen it a thousand times. The only difference is look at the amount of work that it takes.

Speaketh the truth

I seem to be lucky and have 2 pretty good machine shops in my town, one is very professional and clean, they charge 80 for a clean and surface, the other is a bit scary on the backside and they like to close early on friday all the time, but they charge 45 and I get the same finish as the other place.

I would never let the cheaper place actually touch a car however...

So which machine shop would have done the head in post 1? The good one or the bad one.

The "good" one, I feel he went a bit much on the oil port but it does not seem to be causing a problem.

I used them exclusively for years but right after the eclipse job last year the machinist that had been there 15 yrs quit and they had some kid from a transmission shop in their. That was the last time I used them... But that engine (a 2006 caravan 2.4l) and our jetta is also fine.

the "bad" and like I said the machining seems good (older guy that just does the machining), just sloppy back shop and I've heard horror stories about them actually working on cars. I've been using them for a year though and at almost half the price of the other place... Heres a few more from them

Kutos man look this argument is kind of invalid it's a matter of opinion their is no bout oring block and head is a better seal but I'm not disputing the MLS isn't a good one either it's probly going to be easier for most ppl to use mls.. me I work on a machine shop my father owns this os stuff we do or register basis so for me it's a no Brainer and we have seen enough high hp stuff to k ow what's better but the hp level I'm think is alot higher. So at the least we can agree to disagree plus I'm starting to feel we are high jacking op threat for matter of opinion. Nice numbers thougg I just ported my head a week ago not ad nice as yours but I think I did pretty well
