Is this normal?? Front cover gears won't turn....

So I took apart the back panel of the new oil pump I just got...the gears turn when I spin it counter clockwise, but when I spin the big gear clockwise, it will not turn.

There is a small "step" type of deal around the upper edge where the small gear rides. It snags there. I DO NOT have the stubby shaft installed on there yet. ONLY the free riding gears. So I am just wondering if it will spin freely once the stubby shaft is installed or what the deal is?

Its possible as the shaft centers it. But be sure to note that the gears are pitched at an angle and can only go in one correct way without binding. VAFQ has more info on that. When installed you should be able to spin the stub shaft both ways with no binding. Be sure to loc-tite the stub shaft bolt too.

Ya the stubby shaft centers the gear. If you hold the gear away and spin it it will spin freely. I was wondering about that myself when I was installing it.
