I know this question has been asked many times but this is a 96 and the "E" is not isolated like most pics/ people explained.
I know its just the case and the ecu might have been swapped but this car has been unmodified so far so I will pretty much base it on the case till I open it.
This is my 96 awd talon

that is the tcu (transmission computer.)

the ecu is in the dash behind the radio.

This was in the dash behind the radio? Where is the TCU located?
If you refer to the diagram on this page, that is where I got that label from.
95-96 EPROM Check
Unless the two are really close to each other then I cant see me mixing them up.

Edit, I read the note he has posted and he says the ecu stands vertically so maybe the pic is for the tcu? Ill check it out.

the ECU will have a bunch of blue plugs going into it I believe, or maybe yellow.

Anyways, you will have to open it up to officially tell. It will have the isolated E if its an Eprom no matter what.

BTW that is the transmission one they shove below the radio. The ECU is mounted higher and further back.

Not only is it a TCU but it's an EPROM TCU. :)

Yay I have an eprom tcu... so now I can...tune it?
Anyways I looked at my ecu and its just a regular pos ecu.
Anyways what are the guide lines for buying an eprom. Does the ecu HAVE to be for a turbo awd car or can I get like a 95 esi eprom ecu? How bout a 90?
Id also like to take a moment to thank Jimmer307 for his helpful comment. +1 post gj.

Owned by reading skills. :banghead:

The only 2G EPROM ECUs are from 95's. You can't use a 1G ECU. With work you could use a 98/99 or EVO ECU but you'll have to learn a bit to wire it up and learn how to tune with them.

It's not plug and play like DSMLink is.

Read steve's post again please :)

You need an ECU from a 2g turbo car.

Changed, yeah was just a typo. Doesnt really make sense to say I have a eprom ecu then say I looked at my ecu and its not...So it doesnt have to be awd or even turbo?
And thanks for the info steve. Thats my goal. Just gonna skip all cheap stuff and go straight to dsmlink (not that its bad or anything)
