TURBO KIT COMPLETE WITH PACESETTER TURBO EXHAUST MANIFOLD($200 alone), BLOWOFF VALVE, WASTEGATE,

if not what else is nessary and is their like a video or intructions to put it together with pictures

Bigger injectors, Mega squirt, bigger fuel pump, exhaust, boost gauge, wideband, the list goes on. For a 420a, its really not worth it unless you build the block.

If you have to ask you are in for a really big project and a lot of learning.

You will need something like this.

Boost gauge
Wideband
Fuel pump
Injectors
Clutch
Something to tune with
Turbo... but since you are NA I wouldn't go with a big one unless you rebuild the bottom end and since you won't be able to run much more than 8 PSI I'd suggest a 13b or T25 for fast spool at least.
A exhaust manifold
New exhaust
A new intake since you are going to the turbo with it instead of the throttle body
I would personally go with a new MAF but I don't know the limitations of the NA version
A intercooler, I'd just do a side mount for the sake of spool since you aren't generating much heat anyway. I'd do a 2g side mount.
Intercooler piping, I'd have it bent for you.

In the end it's really not worth the cost of parts when you could make more off a cheaper running turbo model, but if you turbo a NA you at least get to say you did it and its a fun project most people avoid like herpes.

The truth is you won't come near the stock turbo models with everything I mentioned. You'd be lucky to have 180 crank with all of that compared to 195 for a 1g and 210 on a 2g for stock crank HP. Plus even with a stock 1 or 2g turbo it still does not feel like its pulling super hard, don't get me wrong its a hell of a lot better than a NA but believe me you will be extremely disappointed.

Don't forget about having the block machined for piston cooling jets.

4g63s aren't that hard to come by. As a professional tech I would say drive your N/A motor as long as it takes to build the turbo motor (and trans!) you really want then swap them out & start having some fun :D That's just my $0.02. Good luck!

You're never going to pull it off. You don't have the same kind of engine that was used in the turbo models, and the engine you want won't fit in your chassis.

You can spend countless thousands to redesign your car from the ground up, or trade it in for a turbo model. Since you had to ask the above question, I suggest you chose the latter.

Op I take it you didn't read the "end all parts list going turbo" in the 420a section you need this. So please do so before cluttering the site with the same thread that's already been answered.

Turbo manifold,
turbo,
intercooler piping,
intercooler,
12:1 fmu,
need to weld a bung in your oil pan for the return line,
wastegate,
walbro 255hp and
a boost gauge.

That is the most basic parts list you can get. A clutch is reccommended but not necessary.

To the 4g63 guys, injectors and megasquirt are not necessary for a basic build running 8lbs, any more than that the fuel system needs upgraded. Also, on this basic build vs. Stock gst, it does beat it at the track with same driver skills.

I was waiting for another 420a guy to come in here. I'm boosted and here's my mods.

255 wally (pn: gss342)
12:1 fmu
Missing link (you don't need)
275cc injectors (you don't need)
3" alum intercooler piping
Blitz intercooler
2"-3" silicone elbow
2 1/2" -3" silicone elbow
Sbr turbo manifold
T3 flanged turbo
Oil feed and return lines
Narrowband a/f and boost gauge w/ a-pillar mount

Total invested is around 1300 with shipping.

d.

i believe the 420a is a speed density based engine?? so he would need a 2bar map sensor along with something to tune with. or he could just use a rising rate regulator and not worry about the map sensor at all.

i dont think it would be worth it to turbo this motor without a built bottom end and megasquirt.

420a's are speed density.

And to my knowledge, the evo 8 swap has never been sucessfully completed. The motor does mount in the stock 420a location, though.

just buy an evo 4g63 motor and swap out the wire harness!

Carter is correct a couple have tried but I cant find one that is completed and running. It takes a lot of modification and even then the engine sticks above the hood a couple inches and you have to cut a hole in your fire wall for the exhaust just to mention a few problems. A more common thing to do is to find a 2.4l 420a and swap the evo pistons into it cutting the cost of buying a evo motor by a large amount.

To op- read the end all parts list for turbo conversion in the turbo section of the 420a area and then build to 8 psi. After than you can build the block and head to go up from there.

Since this thread is unneeded due to the fact it has been covered 100%, I'm goin to have a little rant and suggest that if you don't know what it takes to turbo a 420a motor don't chime in. The first three post in this thread have wrong information and I'm tired of reading from 4g guys that respond to these type of post with wrong information. So, if you don't know what your talking about don't post!

Have you ever done this? I am willing to bet that you heard this was possible and just figure any old goomba can pull it off. Before feeding our new members with ideas and suggestions, you should first be experienced and knowledgeable with what you suggest.

OP, if you have a raging hard-on for the FWD 420A car that you have now, than by all means, follow the productive advice in this thread, paying close attention to Carter_95RS.

Do not listen to the quoted advice. You can, positively, absolutely, guaranteed, get a 2G GST/X for less than that suggestion, minus all the headaches and the fact that the average member on this site could never accomplish this with what they know and have experience with.

Here is what you can expect to pay for the engine:

03-05 LANCER EVOLUTION GSR ENGINE 4G63 EVO8 MR RS - eBay (item 280606852214 end time Mar-21-11 08:51:37 PDT)

$2,450.00

Here is what you can expect to pay for the transmission:

03-05 Mitsubishi Evolution 8 5SPD Manual Transmission - eBay (item 220744500040 end time Mar-04-11 18:30:00 PST)

$1100.00

Transfer Case:

lancer evolution evo 8 transfer case - eBay (item 250780597608 end time Mar-09-11 08:35:38 PST)

$960.00

Rear End:

MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION EVO REAR DIFFERENTIAL 8 9 VIII - eBay (item 160534092556 end time Mar-18-11 20:58:41 PDT)

$620.00

Driveshaft:

03-04 LANCER EVOLUTION 8 GSR DRIVESHAFT EVO8 RS 4G63 - eBay (item 330517604784 end time Mar-10-11 12:13:29 PST)

$140.00

Engine Harness:

2003 LANCER EVOLUTION 8 GSR ENGINE WIRE HARNESS EVO8 - eBay (item 330526671332 end time Mar-05-11 05:17:29 PST)

$220.00

Total: $5490.00

That's not including Evo 8 dash harness, ECU, axles and any parts that will need customization work to be installed. Plus exhaust, turbo, intercooler, BOV, etc., etc.

Sure you could save yourself some money by buying a totaled Evo for like $8,000.00 for the swap.

Or you could pay the average of $4,500.00 to $5,500.00 to buy a 2G GSX.

I hope my point is relatively clear. Daily drive the car you have and save for a GST/X 1g or 2g, whatever.

I know lots of people have turbocharged a 420a DSM, but it seems to me that if you have to ask if a partially copied and pasted description of an ebay product is all you need, and if there are spoon fed step by step instructions are available...

Lets just say, I wouldn't want the OP converting my car to turbo. In this particular case, trade it in for a turbo model.

Now, I personally have done a 420A turbo build. This is what we actually needed, bare minimum, which was our goal.

Manifold
Turbo (Internally Gated was fine)
BOV
Intercooler Piping
Intercooler Core
FMU
Custom Downpipe
Conical Filter

That's it, while we elected to go with more for safety and precaution, this was the bare minimum we needed. We just had to plan our routing of pipes and use regular old plumbing supplies to run the coolant lines for the turbo. We welded a bung to the oil pan and used an AN return line kit to make an oil return. We had an oil filter housing sandwich that we used for a feed.

This was during install, don't mind the oil feed line going to no-whwere.

My bad, the above picture is the car we pulled it off of. Here is the install pictures...

OP, if you are seriously considering this PM me and i will answer your questions, provide information with pictures of how i did my setup. I had someone help me out, and i'm willing to do the same for you. Please keep in mind, i wont spoon feed you, but i can help you acomplish your goal reliably. :thumb:

go start to hahns its good cheap and made for the 420a i have the stage one and im making way more power then before and its awsome. look on Hahn RaceCraft Homepage

Wait, you call the hahn kit cheap? I built my kit which would equate to the stage 2 kit for roughly 1300 bucks. The hahn stage two is like 3 grand. But the hahn kit is proven and reliable where I did all of my own research and invested alot of time into my setup. If you don't want to put the time and research into what you need and building the kit for yourself then the hahn kit is for you.

The hahn kit does have one thing i wish i had though, a 16g rather than the t3/t4 i have now.

OP, your vague question has been answered many times over in one form or another. Please research a little more before posting a new thread next time.

4G63 guys, pay attention to the forum in which you're posting and heed our rules. I'll have to start dispensing warnings for misinformation or telling the OP to sell his car and buy a 4G63.
