I was doing my valvetrain and I noticed this! Is this ok to run like this or not :hmm:? Notice the cracks where the bottom retainers rest :ohdamn:. Also, this is a 1g head going on a 2g 7blt. The first pic is the worst one I think, but there are a few of them that are cracked in some way. Don't mind the grit, I media cleaned the head and have to spray it out! :D

Thanks for the help people!

Yea there is not much you can do about that, but it will be fine. Dont be afraid of it, no big deal, a lot of them do it.

Ok, thanks guys! I was worried that I had to junk it, especially after I did the porting to it.. :notgood:

that ###### happened when the guides were changed at one time....you should be fine to run it as it sits.... but when/if you ever have to change the guides again.... that could be the end of the head...

I wouldn't run that. Can you tell how deep they go? Are you running high HP? Those cracks are going to see a lot of pressure and they could easily chip off and end up floating around your head tearing up all sorts of things. Depending on how deep they go it could crack through to the combustion chamber which would be very bad. If you have the means to correct this I would get a new head. Save yourself the trouble later on.

It only seems to be on those pieces in the middle of the retainer.
