Is there anyway to make the interior lighing brighter?

I own a 99 GSX, and there is no dome light in the car, only the light that comes from the rear view mirror and two bulbs where my feet rest. The car is rediculously dark at night. Does anyone know a way to make it brighter inside?

Any input would be nice,

I'm not sure how electronically inclined you are but here is a link for a solar powered LED flashlight based on 12V. You should be able to build just the LED portion and mount it wherever you deem necessary. LED's throw off some nice light and use very little current not to mention you can customize the size and shape and pretty much put them anywhere. A bonus is that you'll never have to replace the bulb again.

i thought my car was too dark as well..even with the dome light....

so i'm picking up some 6in blue neons from a guy and wiring them straight into the ignition wire, and through a rocker switch...

that might be too 'rice' for you, as it is for some others, but just a suggestion.

(the LEDS are a really good solution too)

The L.E.D solution sounds good too but that link above about solarpower LED or whatever looks complicated. DSM's have been around for a while, has noone came up witha kit or somehting for interior lighting?

If I do install some LED's, where would I be getting the power source from? Does my turbo timer affect the ignition power source?

Buy some low dome 1,3 or 5 watt LED's. A couple should do the trick. They will need resistors (the manufacturer can tell you what size). You simply solder the resistor to the LED and tap into any 12 volt line. If you want you can set them in any old bulb housing (U-Pull is your friend). Otherwise, they are so small, discreet and durable they could be mounted anywhere by themselves.

Seriously though, each one should throw at least as much as a very bright dome light, only more directional. You won't need many.

If you go back to that page, you can see the values for each and you should be able to build it in a half-hour or hour at best. Radio Shack carries all of those components and additionally, if you have a friend handy with a solder iron, enlist them to give you a hand.

I would tap into the existing power for your dome/map lights.

LED Strip Lights. Go on Ebay, look up "24 LED White Flexible Strip" Should run ya about $3 each after shipping, buy up like 2 or 3 of them. Stick them to the top of the rear pillar trim and 1 to the rear hatch trim. Wire them to the wires going to the mirror. There will be 3 wires there, Constant Hot, Ground, and "Dome Light." Or where ever you want to I guess... I was actually just looking at that tonight. If you wanna get fancy you could use blue or red leds, or try to get one that you can change the color on... Ebay is great for them kinda things! Total project should cost $15? Tops?
