Or do they just sit in the head? I can't remember when I took them out and it doesnt look like there should be a seal there but I can't for the life of me remember what it looks like or should...does anyone have a pic or a link to the seals for the bottom of the injectors?

Kind of a "quad-ring" looking Seal in addition to the "Insulators" at the Upper end of Injectors - they do NOT just sit in the head by any means...

Pep Boys/Auto Zone/O Reilly's all just have the "o ring" seals....there a part number anyone has by any chance? Or satan it is?

Injectors have O rings, then the upper insulator and then the lower seal. The lower seal is a donut shape piece of rubber that you slide on the injector and the seal and the injector get pushed into a hole in the head right after the intake manifold ... not sure on the part number on the seals but I went to my local dealership and jsut told them " I need lower injector seals ... the ones that go into the head " and they had them in stock too. They were like $2 a piece. I know RRE sells them too .. they might even have them shown on their site. Check out www.roadraceengineering.com and go to the fuel mods section. Good luck.

*tilts head* insulators are on the bottom of the injectors and they sit in the head. orings are the skinny's on the top and go into the rail.

theyre like a buck each at napa/murrys/autozone/etc.

Yep, and the the funny name for the rubber spacer between the injector and fuel rail is an injector sheet.

Steve

Am I just missing the injector sheet on the bottom? Am I only missing one seal? Or the insulators etc too? *confused*

1. What else goes here, does this black piece get replaced or do I just stick the injector sheet over it and pop it into the head?

2. This O ring is all the goes on here right? It fits snug into the rail now.

Here's what goes where or would if you had the insulator fitted over the pintle cap.

Double check the head, the insulators usually stick inside it when you remove the injector.
Make sure to oil the o-rings and install the injector in the fuel rail with a twisting motion to avoid tearing or pinching.

so all I'm missing is the insulators. I had the head off and reworked so they're gone gone. Looks like just that one part - on a side note why the hell doesnt the manual talk about anything but the O ring seals? It doesnt mention the sheet or the insulators....

They are shown in the exploded parts diagram for injectors in the service manual.
In the manual they call in sheet a gromit, which is what I would call them but CAPS insists it an injector sheet.

Don't worry about loosing the old insulators, they are cheap and should be replaced anyway along with the o-rings.

Here's a picture I'd posted in the past on what the parts looked like.

The part numbers are:
MD614813 o-ring
MD614805 sheet
MD087060 insulator

The manual says everytime but I see no reason unless they are cracked or deformed.
All they do is position the fuel rail on the injector inlet and compress the injector in the insulator for sealing.
The insulators in my 13 yo car were hard and compressed but the sheets/gromits were like new.

Steve

When installing new injectors (680cc), do i need to install the sheet grommits as well as the upper and lower o-rings on the new injectors? I'm not sure if my new injectors need that middle o-ring (grommit/insulator). Thanks.

Unless there is something else to serve the same function you do.

99% of the DSM injectors I've seen need the sheet to keep the fuel rail from seating too far down on the injector. The pressure from torquing the fuel rail down gets transfered from the rail to the sheet to the injector body to the insulator to the head to seal the insulator/injector against the head.

Steve

I just removed my fuel rail, and i have a question... im looking at the illustrations that you guys did and i have a quick question.. where the insulator is that goes on the bottom of the injector that goes into the head (the hard metal piece) isnt there supposed to be a o ring that sits on top of that as well or not?

With stock injectors the only thing on the bottom of the injector is the insulator. The injector seats into it and the sheet is compressed between the injector body and fuel rail to hold the injector down against the insulator.

Steve

thanks alot steve.. ya i have a leaky insulator.. and i accidently ordered o-rings instead of insulators.. o well.. if im lucky they didnt ship it out yet and can just change my order..

Thanks alot for replying tho
