Ok well i believe the answer is no, but i was searching on here through the gallery and i saw a bunch of pictures listed as gsx spyders. Is there any from the factory that way? Or are all those ones just custom fabrications? If there is then i have settled what my next summer car will be LOL.
Please let me know.-----Thanks----Ryan.

Why not? I would definitily want a GSX spyder. If the conversion is well done you have a AWD spyder! That would be awesome.

THe conversion uses the drivetrain and all from a regular GSX so its not that its bad parts or anything. All depends on how the job was done bot hte parts themselves are regular DSM GSX parts.

It is a bi*** though if the donor car is rusted on the bottom.

Do it! I did it before I discovered this website and I still got it done fairly easy. I bought a totalled 95 tsi talon off ebay for 2k, it had a stroker 2.3, 16g, etc. I parted the car out for 3k and kept what I needed, so basically I MADE 1000 bucks converting my spyder:thumb:

i priced this project out last year and i think it costs like 2000

your gona need

gsx exhaust
rear end
gsx gas tank
drive shaft
awd trans/transfer case
awd flywheel

i cant think of anything else as of right now but i know thats the basics, if i can find a nice black on black spyder gst i would buy it and def do this conversion. even like it was said before, he made 1000 just by doin the conversion. :talon:

Don't get me wrong i would love a conversion, but being custom only will make it very rare and expensive. I would never have the time to do it myself as i constantly am working. It would be expensive for me since i have a regular gst at the moment. So would have to buy a gst spyder and then a gsx and then do the conversion.
I would be absolutely thrilled to own one though i have to say!!

actually from what iv'e read, its really easy but time consuming. For the GST's its not at all harder just some exhaust hangers needs to be welded on, and for spyders its a direct bolt up.

Thats good to hear though. Just for now for me the time consuming part is what would kill me. Would have to throw down like 6 grand to just get the cars and get started also.
But in the future i think i might have to give it a try.

If you are interested in having the swap done on your spyder, send me a PM and we can work something out. I see that you are out of new cumberland, pa and I'm located in Lancaster. I did it at my home garage, I have a lift, compressor, etc. All I would need is a donor car. Find one on ebay that has a blown engine or was waffled in the front. If you need pictures let me know.

For the spyder, all of the tank mounts must be cut to access in the frame, then they need new studs dropped and welded, then the frame welded shut. There is more involved in a spyder swap than a hardtop shuffle. All of the mounts on the bottom of the car need drilled out (they are all spot-welded) for the center driveshaft mounts along with the offset hangers for the AWD exhaust. Its gravy work, trust me.

I can vouch for this guy! I saw his car in the progress of this being done. Swap was done real professional w/ attention paid to detail! That is a rarity with most DSM shops.

What is the name of the shop? I"m just really hesistant to take my car to someone I've never met before. I have too much invested, expecially with the $3600 paint job. :p My current mechanic is actually a very good friend of mine. When my car is in the shop he actually ropes off the bay when it's in for service. It's nice to have someone that understands my love for the car and takes good care of it for me.

Its my garage for my at home projects (Lift, massive compressor, the works). By day I'm an Audi master tech. Hope your local mechanic is a bang up welder, you're going to need one! :thumb: Seriously though, do the swap, it will be near free if you find a car that you can somewhat partout, PLUS all of the stuff you remove on your car that you can sell. I'm a tightwad, I planned this out for a month :D
