is my tranny toast?

it grinds only in 1st to 2nd.... but only when i race... when im just gettin on it and i shift slowly there is no problem... i have yet to oil the cables or adjust them... or bleed the clutch cyclinder... but i have replaced the fluid with redline which made it a bit better but not as good as it was with my FWD.... this is my first AWD, and i have heard that the 1990 model's are the worst trannies to have for quick shifting...

so the verdict is do i shift slower becasue its a 1990 or is the trany shot? thanks -Matt

Since it only appears at higher aceleration, could be bad mounts that have too much give, and is moving the componants too much to line up correctly.

90 trannys are know to be less-performing and less-reliable. Most usually 1st and 2nd gear grinding means the syncros are getting bad, not gone. With bad syncros, some trannys can last a month, some a year. You never know. If it continues to get worse, I would take it to Shep for a re-build. Good Luck.

well i adjusted my cables which were WAY OFF... probably factory too... that helped ALOT... but still not up to par... im starting to get used to just the lag of shifting from 1st to 2nd, so its not too bad... im just trying to be gentle... ill probably send it to shep as soon as i have the money and a parts runner...
