So I was leaving work a couple weeks ago and as I started to drive off my car started making a horrendous clunking noise almost like my muffler was bouncing off the ground. Got out and looked under the car saw nothing but I had to get home so it drove off and the noise changed from a clunking to a screeching noise but as I continued driving and it shifted into second the noise died back down quite a bit to the point there was no noise at all. I drove to my first stop light thinking it had passed until I tried to accelerate from a stop and the screeching came back. As I accelerated the screeching got worse then as I got to the top of second gear it went away and shifted into third and over drive with out any noise at all. I can now drive the car without any noise if I accelerate very slowly but if I try to accelerate even at a normal pace the screeching returns. I drove it to a transmission shop and then another problem occurred, when I shifted it into park it would not hold on a slight slope. I could tell there was some resistance but not any where near enough to hold it in place. I had the tranny tech drive it and he thought it was that an axel or perhaps the half shaft had come unseated and the splines were only engaging when there was a low amount of torque being applied. This made sense to me because the noise sounded like splines grinding but not engaging so I took it over to a axel and gear shop and had them test it. Two days later I got it back and they said first gear was dead and second was slipping a ton and that I was loosing a bearing in the rear diff. I took it back to the tranny shop and am still waiting to hear from them about what they think the problem is. If any one has a clue as to what this may be I would really appreciate the input. If its the transmission that needs to be rebuilt I am looking at doing it myself and any pointers to that end would be appreciated as well! Thanks guys!

I didn't even think to specify that I have an auto :ohdamn: buta anyways thanks for the replies guys. Figured at least first is gone and most likely need to replace second too. Any tips as to which internals are the best, I've been looking at ipt and that's probably who I'll go with but if any one else has some info I haven't heard yet chime in and let me know!
