So my car had been having a weird idle problem where it would idle at like 750 and drop to 400 and sometimes stall. I replaced the ISC, cleaned the throttle body, and I adjusted the BISS to stay at like 900. I was out driving around today and my CEL came on. I only have a digital multimeter but from what I could tell it was throwing code 12 which is a bad MAS. Did I screw something up causing the ECU to think the MAS is bad? All plugs are secured.

1g FWD turboed, 168,xxx on body and most likely all sensors, 40,xxx on motor.

Have you done a boost leak test? Your MAS may be bad, but I would check foe leaks first. That can throw your idle way off. How is cruising and boosting?

Okay. I was looking around my intake manifold and the throttle body is missing that one bracket that goes right under the CAS and and the the bolts are tightened down all the way. Basically the bolt went right through the back of the intake manifold. Picture:

And the bottom bolt wasn't even torqued. Pic:

Is it time for a new intake manifold?

Probably. In the mean time I would replace those bolts with shorter versions or trim them down a bit and retorque them. Some JB weld on that hold *might* do the trick. Be sure to let it set well though. You don't want epoxy getting in your engine.

If and when you replace the manifold, they are cheap.

The codes should be checked with an analog meter.

To be sure the MAS is bad you could always clear the ECU by disconnecting the battery. If the code comes back, I would change the MAS. Looking at the readings and codes with a logger would be a good way to find out.

Do a boost leak test and spray your suspected manifold area with soapy water to see if it truly leaking.

With that bracket missing, what is holding your Cam Angle Sensor tight to the head? Are there washers in place of the bracket?

Could you fill out your vehicle profile for us also?

You know, there wasn't even a bolt on the bottom part of the bracket (the part that bolts on the CAS) I will definately be picking a bolt up for that! Is it safe to drive around a little with it like that? I kinda need to get to work and there are no hardware stores still open.

Also forgot to add, codes were cleared and the CEL came back on. From what I could tell it was the same code as before (12)

Man, I didn't even notice that. Definitely use an analog meter. I've tried with a digital just to see and it's impossible to read correctly. You really need the sweeps on the needle to see it clearly.

Okay I will look at it with an analog meter. I went out to the car today to go to work and it didn't start  I tried clearing the codes and still got nothing. I'm going to let it sit for a second and try and fire it up again. Grrr! I need to get to work.

Got the car to fire up. Had to keep turning the BISS down. PHEW! I took it for a spin and no CEL but the codes were cleared so we'll see today down the road. I took work off today so hopefully I will be able to see about an intake mani from my parts guy or from a forum member.
