Edmonton,
Hi, I want to clear this confusion up that I have about ECU's.. the previous owner told me the ecu was chipped, and that the car now runs 13psi max boost as a result... which I believed when I bought the car, not knowing much about what the ECU controlled on a DSM. To my current knowledge, the BCS alone (and i guess the wastegate) control boost (assuming the BOV isnt leaking etc etc).

The car has 2.5" turbo-back exhaust with high flow cat and 2.5" hard intercooler piping.. would these mods alone bump the max boost to 13psi?

I believe the ECU is chipped (i havent felt like tearing out my cd player etc to get the ecu cover off and look myself)... i know my rev limit is 8500, as i've hit the spark cut a few times.. also there's no speed governor.. these things lead me to believe there is a chip, but that the previous owner was confused as to what was making the 13psi of boost.

And if it is chipped, shouldnt there be a launch rpm option? I guess i should really open the box up and take a look.

All turbo DSM's came from the factory with 7500rpm fuel/spark cutoff. If you're hitting 8500, you have a chip.

There's no guarantee it has launch control. Chips can be progammed with a variety of options. Only way to find out is to try it.
