Is it possible to use a fwd trans in awd car?

I just got a sweet deal on a 1g fwd trans, im trading an alpine ida-x001 for it, along with some stock flywheels and such...Im going to use the internals and everything to fix my 2g fwd trans.

...but i was just thinking, Im going to be buying an awd tsi in the next few weeks that needs a new trans_will the FWD tranny work fine in the AWD car? That would save me on renting a truck and trailer, and on gas driving 2.5 hours each way.

If it does work, will i need to change anything like axles as well? (the trans is a turbo fwd trans)


i do know i will need a fwd flywheel...

Yea, you will have to remove the tcase and drive shaft and you will need a FWD driver side axle due to the different oil seal. You will need a FWD starter plate too.
