Is it possible to relocate the heater controls?

St. Catharines,
I have this idea and think that it would be really neat to relocate the heater controls (temp, selector, and re-circ.) under the stereo, (get rid of the tray) to allow for gauges to be installed in those holes. I know that others have intalled gauges there, but to retain the controls would be great! Using all small knobs off of the fan speed selector, (spare parts) would this fit? Is it possible to move all that stuff in there? Has anyone ever relocated those controls before? Or are they pretty much stuck there if you want to retain use of them?

Any input would be great! Thanks!

Thats funny... I wanted to do the same thing... I have gauges I want in, but I still need to be able to defrost and keep warm in the winter (No AC)...

If anyone has done this before, chime in pleeeaassseee...

i saw this on ebay awhile ago and thought it was cool... so it is possible

I don't remember how everything works in there, but the selector for recirculated and fresh air is a manual actuator, not electric. If you wanted to retain it's use you would have to do some cutting, bending and possibly bracket fabrication.

Or just set it to outside air and leave it alone.

Thats a really cool pic! I was thinking of using the small fan speed knob for ALL 3 of the heater control knobs. This would save space and might be able to fit under the stereo deck.
Has anyone on this sight done this?

If you're just going to relocate it to the cd player space, then I wouldnt even bother...just put the gauges in that spot instead of the heater controls. Seems like alot of work for a few inches of difference.

If you're gonna do it, move it all to the glove box. My friend with an STI moved it all to the glove box, and it looks great.

Damn! I never even thought of that! That would be kinda cool, but a bit of a PITA to make a simple adjustment. I would think that if the cables/wires could reach the glove box, they could reach under the deck.;) Did the cables/wires reach? Basicaly, has anyone had that stuff apart, and noticed the potential mobility of it?

You would have a hard time getting it under the radio as you would have to go down and then back toward the firewall and then back forward once you cleared the headunit. Sounds liek alot of work to me.
