So I'm working on buying a new Eclipse but I'm not sure if it's a GST or GSX. They said it's a GSX but I haven't been able to see the car in person yet. Here are some pics of the car I'm buying, can anyone help me out?

This sounds awfully familiar to another thread from about a month ago. I can't find it right now, but it was the same deal with a girl and her dad, both clueless and no information. They claimed something about the turbo (forget the exact problem), yet it wasn't even a turbo model!

OP, get a lot more info, especially some engine and underbody pics, and make sure you see it in person. I agree with Snowboarder, something sounds fishy, or they truly are clueless about everything.

it's a GST, how often do you see people downgrading a leather interior to cloth, downgrading gsx wheels to 5 star ones...

either way u shouldn't get it, it's an AUTO and "it NEEDS a turbo"
 
It is clearly a GST.

- 1 Piston Front Calipers
- Cloth Interior (2GB GSXs came STANDARD with Leather, so unless someone downgraded it...)
- GST Chromes

Why does it being an auto mean he shouldn't get it? Besides the fact that automatic DSM transmissions are proven to be stronger...what is wrong with an automatic?
 
Newsflash... You can order cars with wheels and cloth interior. Wheels and cloth have nothing to do with what trim it is. Yeah the cars just sitting on the lot usually had leather and twin spoke 5 stars. But you could order a car with the options you want. There is really nothing to say it is or isnt a turbo model in the pics, and definently nothing to it is or isnt awd.

Newsflash: AWDs regardless of leather or interior had to come with the 2 piston fronts for more than just nice-to-have purposes. Because the car came factory with a higher rating tire and no governor like the GSTs the brakes were required to put out a certain stopping force.

This car has 1 piston fronts.
 
Well my gs-t i just bought a few days ago has leather interior, does that mean it might be a gsx LOL ? its in the shop right now for emission problems so i can't check (failed smog; california)

No, leather was an upgrade option for a GST. It was standard in all 2GB GSXs.
 
You guys are so entertaining... How long are you going to go on with this thread it's a waste of a moderators time. MORE INFO/PICS NEEDED GO LOOK AT THE $%^ING CAR IN PERSON problem sloved. This thread can now be closed as the result of greyspyder117 sloving the problem. You guys make me:banghead:. I feel sorry for myself that this is my second post in his thread because it is also a waste of my time. Only reason i say these mean things are more important questions are out there to be answered. Everyone in here should go read a few other post maybe they you will learn something that will actually help you other then beig able to look at a pic and know what model it is... Just saying....

I am sorry but the only picture you can see the breakes in clearly is of the rear.

I'm sorry that you aren't that familiar with the car, but in the first picture you can see the caliper through the rim, and it is visibly noticeable that it isn't the 2G "big brakes."

You can also see the sway bar in the rear picture, the GST sway bar is smaller than the GSX and from that picture, I feel fairly confident that that is the smaller of the two when I compare it to the one on my GSX.
 
Tell them to send u a pic of the caliper... 2g gsxs have 2 pistons and 2g gsts have 1 piston easiest way to find out without getting underneath the car unless they upgraded but if it's stock I doubt it
 
Got the VIN and runned the number, GST. But thanks for all the info, I would of never known bout this sway bar, 1 piston brake, etc. So you guys think it's a good buy? Opinions? And yes it needs to be an auto because it's gonna be a family spare and no one in my family except one can drive a stick.
 
That only helps part of the question. What's been done to it? I probably wouldn't pay that much money unless it had a decent amount of mods that were installed properly. Or maybe if it was completely stock and in great condition. I don't see either of those being the case, and would probably shoot more for $3k, give or take a bit.
