Is a Walbro 255 HP too much for me?

I did a search on the walbro because I saw one for sale locally at a good price. I only have intake, turbo timer, and turbo back exhuast. Exhuast raised boost pressure to 15 psi.
If I get the fuel pump will it screw things up? I read I need a fuel pressure regulator, and is there anything else I should know? I realize the walbro may be overkill, but I believe in the do the upgrade right the first time (if possible) method, so will this have any adverse affects on performance?
 
If you get a 255, you'll need the AFPR as you say. Other than that, you'd be fine. You may also want to consider upgrading the fuel lines and filter between the tank and fuel rail. It costs around $450 for both the tank-to-rail with filter and the AFPR kit. You could do the AFPR first, then the pump, then (optionally) the tank-to-rail and filter.
 
yup. Just get a 190, because your stock fuel pressure regulator won't be able to hold what the 255 can put out. definite overkill

Sounds about right. I would def do it in that order. Im currently selling an afpr and a 255 on the classifieds right now. How much for the SS lines though? You could save if you go slightly used :thumb:
 
I m thinking of just getting the pump (its only $25) I ll stash it untill I decide to get the FPR. Since my car is still running stock injectors and no engine management, I wont be running too rich? Does this setup basically allow the engine to get the fuel when it needs it (prevent fuel cut and run better at high RPM) and not confuse the computer or anything?

I bought the tank-to-rail kit from STM for about $220. Includes braided SS 6AN lines, (can get the black nylon braid, too as an option), Shadow Series fittings, and Fuelab fuel filter. Then you need to buy the blue Earl's Saginaw fitting for connecting the stock fuel pump assembly to the AN line. I got that from Jegs.com for another $10 or something. I got the fuelab AFPR kit from STM, too, for another $220. Total was $450 for the whole shebang.

I'd recommend that if anyone gets the tank-to-rail kit to ask them to substitute one of the straight AN fittings with a 90* for the bottom of the fuel filter. It would've made it easier for my install. The line comes from the passenger side of the engine bay and has to bend up into the filter, so the 90* fitting would make that a lot easier. I mounted the filter in the stock location with the stock bracket. I got some weather stripping tape from the hardware store to go along the inside of the stock filter bracket to take up the extra space and keep from scratching the new, shiney, black fuelab unit (it's a bit smaller in diameter than the stocker).

If you have the money to get an AFPR kit, I think it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. Why go to a 190 when you can jump to a 255 and have it carry you all the way to where you need to go? While you're at it, you should go ahead and replace your fuel filter at the same time. IMHO, it's definitely falls within your 'upgrade right the first time' mantra :thumb:
 
Hhaha alright thanks, that helped me understand better. My new problem is my car causing me to spend too much. I dont view it as a problem but my dad does :p This kind of also gave me the if it aint broke dont fix it mantra. Its hard to apreciate what we have with these cars, I feel like I always need more :D !
I also realized fixing and modding a million things at once while only having the one car, and needing to drive it make life difficult and stressfull LOL!
 
I got a 255lph HP kit for my car while the car was in pieces so I thought to myself I said " self, I think I should be okay for a little while with out an AFPR." then I got nervous as I got closer to getting the car back together and I didn't want to wash down my cylinder walls and run pig rich so I got a AFPR kit from Extremepsi.com for 218.00 so now I got her all hooked up and ready to roll. I thought that its better to be safe than sorry.
