Im thinking about doing a rebuild due to low compression. The thing is should I rebuild my 1g 7bolt? It would save me money from not having to buy a 6bolt, but with a built 1g 7bolt, would it be as good as a built 6bolt? I never here anyone saying there 1g 7bolt walked.

It's because of the thrust bearing setup in the 95-97 7 bolts. It's not as huge as its played out to be. Just build your 7bolt and be done with it. If you want all the reasons it crank walks google is your friend.

While it's good to have a machine shop familiar with 4G63's do the work, it's not necessary. There's no rocket science here, the exact same principles for machining and assembly are the same as every other motor. One thing to watch out for is if you have your crank turned for any reason, some machine shops for some reason will not recut the proper filets into the crank, but if you're just polishing a good condition crank, the rest of the machining is standard. Pay close attention to the piston to wall clearances if you're using aftermarket pistons, every one has a different spec based on piston material and how much boost you're throwing at it.

This is the type of input I like to hear(not just this post).

But as far as me rebuilding my 7bolt, Id have probably a grand in shipping IF I have to send it off. I think Id be paying around the same thing if I found a shop to sell a motor that needs rebuilt and shipping back. I would like to rebuild mines, but Ill be back to square one looking for a shop around my area to rebuild it RIGHT.

Well, a lot of high mileage 7-bolts have walked here, but we are talking about 100 000 miles and upwards.

Compared to how often you need to swap blown gearboxes, crank-walk is a non-issue, IMHO. Even more, it's not even that expansive to repair crank-walk once every 60 000 miles or even after longer periods.
