Is a 1g engine stronger than 2g?

Is the 1g engine less likely to be a victim of crankwalk? I'm just curious because i did it in my 2g and it's still at the shop getting the engine swapped. Also, would other areas of the car (besides the engine) last longer in the 1g's?...like the transmission and suspension? I just wanna know because I want something that is fast when it is stock...but i need a car that will last a long time without anything major breaking down, for example, engines. I know that the first generation will have alot more miles, but if the engine last long mileage doesn't matter. SO ....would the 1g DSM be less likely to crankwalk and will generally last longer in all other departments than a 2g? Because i'm thinking of getting rid of my 2g...and if the turboed 1g's will last longer, i'll try to find one to buy.
thanks

actually the 2g motor is rated at a higher HP than the 1g out of the factory. as for crankwalk, it doesn't happen on 1g SIXBOLT motors.

But does anything else go wrong with the engine? Like the valve cover, spark plugs, gaskets? or is the other problems that happen are the same common problems that occur to any other type of engine?

It can happen on ANY motor. 6-bolt is just very unlikely it will happen. Which motor is better? The 1g head flows better, but the 2g internals seem to be stronger. feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I though that 1g rods were the best/strongest and that is why people put 2g pistons on 1g rods?

Other than your normal wear and tear on the engine there's nothing else 1g's are "notorious" for happening to them or same goes for 2g's (other than walking) Only thing is is if they have the 1g engine out of the car for a couple days you could get them to replace some of the main gaskets since it's already out of the car and wouldn't take them nearly no time to get them replaced.

yeah, my bad. 1g rods are stronger, but you have to get them machined to fit on 2g pistons.

So what engine is better overall? i just got my sixbolt put it? if feels strong but my other motor stock felt faster? my 7bolt of course? well i was just wonder bec i put hella cash in to this car already and i am hoping that this motor last me a while!!! right now i am leaking some oil put i am sure its my oil pan gasket about to change it today? but all DSM's suck at one point or another! but when there at there prime! no V8 or Honda can hang! hahahah well my fellow dsmers i am off to class!

The ones rated the best seem to be the 90-92 6-bolt motors, because the rods are stronger. The 6-bolt can handle about 50 more HP than the 7-bolt can stock.

However, since I haven't had any problems with my 7-bolt (crankwalk) I don't see a point in swapping for it.

I intend to keep running my 7 bolt until I snap a rod, unless something else happens first to prevent me from doing that.

I'll let you know how much she takes. ;)

Same goes for me and my 7 bolt.

If I do happen to have this engine go out I will probly go with a 6bolt since there are more out there to buy and rebuild then the 7bolt. Besides that the factory replacement is a HIGH dollar replacement compared to what you can do in the DSM performance shop world.:thumb:

Chad: I like your wheels!

FWIW, my 98 GSX is coming up on 255k miles. Stock motor - no major service required beyond timing belts. We're burning no more oil now than when new - maybe half a quart in 3500-4000 miles. At full throttle, review mirror is still clear - always clear of smoke, usually clear of other cars, LOL.

correct me if im wrong..but 1g compared to the 2g has..

better: rods, intake manifold, head, throttle body
worse: pistons

as for reliability, if you can find one in decent enough shape go for it, or just get one rebuilt

Just buy a Buschur motor and be done with it, man. Don't ask me where to get the money for it though. I'm still trying to figure that part out. :laser:

Thanks about the Wheels comment. I got them for about $250 shipped.;)

As for the Buschur motor. Refer to this website and page here. :thumb:
