Is 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 going to have the same sidewall height?

I was reading some posting that mentioned 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 will look the same in the wheelwell because the the sidewall height is almost identical. I want to go wider b/c i need more traction to go along with the lsd i'm getting soon. I originaly wanted to get 215/55/16 but 225 might be better if i decrease the sidewall height. By the way i have stock rims.

For stock rims, 225 might fit - but it'd be awfully wide on that rim, perhaps too wide. 225/50 would be identical to the stock rolling diameter though, so your speedometer would be spot on. You may want to try 215/50 - I ran these last year - it's not spot on, the sidewall's a wee bit slimmer, but its wider and will fit on the stock rim. (This Pic should give you an idea of how 215's would look on the stock 16" rims - those are 215/50s on my stock rims from last summer)

For a tool, you may want to check out this Tire Size Calculator.

Good luck!

No they're not the same sidewall height. The 55 is the percent of the width (205, 225) so if they're different widths the height will also be different.

Yeah, but they're not both a 55 section height.

The stock size is about 0.2% bigger in diameter. Nothing worth worrying about.

i just want something a tad bit wider but i'm scared to go with 50 instead of 55 b/c of the wheel gap difference even though my car is lowered.

Did you even read my reply? The two sizes have a 0.2% difference in diameter. That means nothing, you won't be able to tell.
