225/50/16 on 7" wide wheel?

Hey guys,

The previous owner installed 225/50/16 tires (cheap ones) on the stock 1G wheels. From my research these are 6" wide?

The tires feel terrible, fit terrible.. with lots of overhang, as I expected.

I have the oppurtunity to upgrade to 16X7 wheels. I would consider keeping the 225/50/16 tires if they are going to feel 10 times better, because right now they are almost unsafe!

So I'm basically asking how do 225/50/16 tires feel on a 7" wide wheel?

PS: Should I expect any fitment problems if/when I lower the car a reasonable amount (I've read 1G's don't like lots of lowering, fine by me).

as long as the rest of the brakes/suspension is fine you should notice better traction etc. whoever ownd my 92 before me put ford probe gt five spoke rims on mine measure 225/50/16 the ride ok but are heavy and i do notice snap oversteer like a early 90 mr2because everthing on my car is broke. as for lowering should be ok with a coilover but 2-1/2 drop should be ok but check to make sure

Ahh.. maybe I shouldn't have posted this in the Newbie section (unfortunately don't have a choice).

Maybe I should rephrase my question to be more direct:

- how much overhang does a 225/50/16 have on a 7" wide wheel?
- how does the above combination feel compared to the same tire on a 6" wheel?

Any insight on actual experiance would be appreciated.

Advan Neovas recommend 7" rims for the 225/50R16.

I've been using 225/50R16 tires on 16x7 wheels for 2 years now without a problem. HTH.
