Interpret These dashlights

I have a 92 Eclipse (albeit with a GVR4 6 bolt and GVR4 Alternator)

Some of the dash lights came on yesterday then teh radio cut out, I turned off my headlights,radio, hvac and limped it home on what seemed to be the battery.

Lights that came on were coolant, battery, brake
When the car was on the verge of stalling ABS and Seatbelt came on.

I got home found the alt belt to be loose so I tightened that up. Checked all the alt and battery connections.

I let her sit overnight and now the coolant, batt and brake light come on intermittently and very faintly. I checked voltage acorss the batt terminals while it was running and got 13.8V

Any ideas on what could be causing the dashlight to come on (even faintly). Could the voltage regulator be dying ?

Either your altenator is dying or the harmonic balancer is shot. The dash lights are normal in either situation.

I replaced the alternator on a friends car that was doing something somewhat similars to what you car is doing, and it fixed the problem, so i would recommend to just get a new alternator and replace the old one. Let me know if that fixed your problem.

I just had this happen to me, that is the first sign that you have an issue with the charging system, usually the alternator..

The belt was shot, so it wasn't grabbing the pulley anymore, my Battery, parking brake, and coolant level lights all started to pulsate in and out, and eventually came on completely.

Then the radio cut out, telling you that the battery is running out of juice, then sputter sputter, cough, dead.

Check your charging system out ASAP, or you might end up stranded on the side of the road like I did.

i just had this problem yesterday it turned out to be my positive terminal the the one little bolt on top of the posi terminal was loose and it caused all my stuff to fail i am assuming have no door beep and no interior lights and your headlights come on when you open your door although it may be different than my 95 gsx but as soon as i tightened it up then everything started to work again if you checked that like you said then check out the alternator choke fuse on the fusible under the hood

I got the alternator out and Advance Auto said they couldn't test it because the bolt holes didn't fit the machine. OK

So after some more searching and talking to a mechanic. I'm going to replace the voltage regulator. I've had one go bad on my GVR4 before and I watched the guy rebuild it so I'm going to do it myself.

I found the part from RockAuto.com for $40 and change and I ordered a new set of brushes as well $4

Plan B was to get a 90AMP Rebuilt Alternator from Autozone for $140 (after core exchange)

Parts should get here Thursday so I'll keep you all posted ...

It sounds like your alternator but there's a small chance it could be your battery as well. I've had batteries that were so old/crappy that they wouldn't hold a charge anymore. Gave the same indications as a dead alt though.

You said your alternator belt was loose....why is it loose? Did you change the belt tension or move the alternator at all lately? If no than what causes a belt to loosen up? Shot belt right?

Couldn't test it because the bolt holes didn't line up? I've had the alt. in my old 91 go out and they tested it at Advance....maybe thier tester is old? I would take it to another parts store and have it tested just to be sure.

I hope what you ordered fixes the problem but I would still check that belt,may need replaced.
