I just bought a 95 Talon Esi, it has 280,000km (I know it's alot) and while driving it I have noticed that every once in a while my car will all of a sudden cut power randomly for only a second. The car doesn't die but it will cut off the gas. I'm not sure how to explain it other than a sudden jolt or chug.

I have also recently started to notice that my first gear is becoming really sluggish and slow until I hit around 4,000rpm. This only happens sometimes. Why is it doing this? And don't say it's because it's a 420a and it's slow, I know it's slow but this is worse.

The motor is tired and needs a tune up. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, cleaning up sensors, air filter. I would start with that and run seafoam through a tank of gas or something similar. That's what I would do.

I did plugs and wires and that didn't do anything. Ran a little smoother off the start and that didn't last very long. Ill see if i can try the fuel filter. Air filter is pretty clean. I really wanna try the seafoam, and see how well that works.

Would a fuel filter off a 97 talon for a 95 talon?

I know you're supposed to change your oil and spark plugs after doing the seafoam but I just finished doing both of them about 3 weeks ago. Will I have to do it again?? Will the seafoam ruin the plugs and oil or can I use them still after the seafoam?

Similar problem i had on 2 420a's, turned out the ECU was bad.

Only a few things you can specifically rule out when your car is acting like it gonna cut power or die chug ect. #1 RULE OUT THE BATTERY (once the car is running you can literally un hook the battery and the car would run.) things I know for a fact is that the Alternator could have a bad Diode that can cause the problem you have(watch your volt gauge should be 12-14 volts reading if its higher it could be over charging). Fuel pump could be on its way out. Also coil pack would be good to replace.

How dose the car start? after a night or 2 of sitting?

Battery is pretty new, took it off my old talon. I don't think it's the alternator as I have a sound system in there which booms with no issues

I will try the coil pack and fuel pump and filter next!

It starts good! Never had a problem with it starting except this morning because its freezing where I live!

Okay so now it's overheating and everyone once in a while it will stall on me when I'm going really slow when I put the clutch in or put I into neutral. Sometimes it dropped below 0 and will catch it then other times it won't and it will stall

Any mods on the car? I had a similar problem ( - the over-heating) where it was some bad wiring to my air/fuel ratio gauge. Once fixed I didn't have the problem anymore.

I'm really starting to think its the ECU now even though it has already been replaced I think this one might be in need of a change as well. I haven't checked codes as nothing is coming up on the dash but I could check that later.

I have a 97 ecu that I could use, is it an easy swap from a 95 ecu to a 97?
