Interior swap...hard?

I hate how my tan interior looks i HATE that shit! :banghead:
I would love to swap into a gray interior, and i mean a FULL interior swap.
Exactly how hard is this and how time consuming can it be?
 
If you have all the parts, it can easily be done in half a day. Thats if you know how everything is put together. For a first time kind of guy, I would take a weekend and go slow. The dash is the hardest part and its even easy.
 
Well for the dash board, tan and gray are both black from up top.
The only difference would be the panels underneath the steering wheel and around the glove box right?

No, they're not. Grey is usually 100% gray.

My buddy has two 2g's both gray interior and both have the black dash.
Anyways, i dont care about the gray actual dash.
I like the black/gray scheme.
 
So you're just doing the seats, carpet, console kick panels?
Eh, I'd still set a weekend aside, just in case. I've never done carpet before though.
 
Every panel that is tan would be swapped for gray.
Including the headliner, carpet, seats and obviously seat belts,
The only part that would seem tricky and kinda PITA are the hatch panels.
 
If only you lived closer, id trade my grey interior for tan. I have some stock grey stuff from my car, shoot me a pm if you need anything.
 
Nah I'm good I'm looking for local including junkyards.
Besides I've asked around and people want triple the price of the panel for shipping.
 
It's easy. My friend bought a gutted 1g awd and so we bought a full interior NT and swapped everything but the dash into the AWD taking us maybe 7 hours total (with a BUNCH of screwing around), then another friend bought the NT from us and swapped the interior out of his non running NT into the new NT which took us 6 hours total (even more screwing around) We gutted everything from the dash backwards. Seats, carpet, panels, everything and it took 2 of us 6 hours. Had we actually worked and not spent probably 30 straight minutes of laughing at some of the stuff we found hiding in the cars it would've taken maybe 2-3 hours.

Neither of us have ever fully stripped a car like that before, but I've pulled almost all the interior out of cars before.
 
I can say from personal experience that it sucked. I bought a 2G shell for the black interior. Put both cars side by side and swapped the tan for the black. It was very time consuming and those clips are a pain. I had several of them fling back into the holes where they are lost forever:p.

But I did have some sever circumstances, 1 stall garage so this was all done outside, all manual tools and it was winter time. In the end though, it was worth it. My black interior is so sexy!

Oh yeah, also I would recommend that you start at one side, and for each piece that you remove, put the screws in Ziplock baggies and label them. Helped tremendously when re installing everything.
 
Well what I had planned on doing was to remove one panel from the donor car then that same panel from my car and change at the spot. Looks like it'll take one entire weekend but I'm up for it.
I've asked around about the carpet and the headliner and they said that the carpet is pretty much held on by the seats, center console and shifter base?
And the headliner is held by the center lights center panels and the weatherstripping?
 
The problem with removing one panel from each car and immediately swapping them is that some of the panels are over lapped. So you may have a series of 3 panels in a row that have to come off and then be put back on in reverse order.

Honestly though, almost all the clips/screws are the same. You can use almost any screw from any part of the interior and it will be the same as a different area. The only ones that are really different are the seat belt bolts and seat bolts (which you can't really mess up), as long as you know where each clip/screw went you should be just fine.

This is how far we stripped the 1g's down and it only took us 6 hours to complete the task.

While I've never swapped an interior of a DSM (although I have stripped mine and put it back in on occasions) I've swapped interiors on my other favorite cars I tune, w201 and w124 Mercedes' and I'm not gonna lie, it's really not that hard if you take your time and stay organized (I have like a hundred metal magnetic containers I keep handy for times like that). But yeah, like everyone said It'll take what feels like forever.
