I picked up some Rustoleum Vynal and fabric paint at autozone cause they were out of duplicolor. Supposedly rustoleum bought out duplicolors line of some specialties paint anyway, but regaurdless the can says for prer just wash with soap and water whatever surface. What prep work should i do before srpaying my seats and panels?

You are gonna paint your seats? Hope you dont wear white shirts.....But it's your car. I know all surfaces that im gonna paint get cleaned very well with 70% isopropyl alcohol....then wiped with a dry clean lint free towel.....make sure you dont put your hands on the surface once its clean the oil on your fingers are not good for a clean surface....after that make sure its dry and start painting

Its a paint made for seats. Its not normal paint.. i was hoping someone with some experience with THIS paint could shed some light.

Do you have leather seats? You'll need 2 separate paint/dyes for the seats as the front section is leather and the rest is vinyl.

I told you how to prep your door panels&dash :thumb: you told me i had no experiance with THIS paint nice caps lock by the way :tease:

Well i would not sand it just prep&spray....if you sand it there would have to be a reason, like maybe light scratches in the plastic, Or if there was a texture like little bumps in the plastic. If you do decide to sand it be very easy, and use a very fine grit paper.....Spray the paint outside at nothing for a second to see how funny the stuff sprays to get use to it. It is different from normal paint because of the thin higher pressure stream& you have to hold it alot farther away from what you wanna spray then normal it runs very fast be carefull and good luck :thumb: post a pic when your done!

My son had a white 96 eclipse rs with a blue interior, which was really ugly! I painted it with the rustoleum paint. I followed advise on this site and used alcohol on most plastic pieces. I did sand the door panels with 2000 grit to get rid of some surface scuffs. It all looked good when we got rid of the car. I also painted the back seats, carpet and cargo cover. The seats looked good but were rough on bare skin. The carpet and cargo cover turned out great. BTW, I scrubed the seats with carpet cleaner and used a carpet cleaning machine on them. Good luck!

so the seats never softened up? I read somewhere that someone did their seats and they got softer not too long after use...

The seats never did feel "normal" to me, but they did get better. We sold the car about a month after the painting and the new owner said that if I wouln't have told him I painted them he wouln't have known. Overall, my son and I were happy with them. I am still using the cargo cover in my GST and it looks like it came grey!

I have tons of expierience with that paint. I painted most of my plastic panels with it. I didn't do anything except wash them and the paint stuck great and is very strong. make sure you paint them when it is sunny out and let them bake in the sun to further harden the paint. What ever you do DO NOT paint your seats the second you sit on them it will rub off. I repeat DO NOT do it.

ok well ive seen where people use scotch pads to rough them, but washing them does just as good?? and as far as the seats goes i am ripping the cloth off, soaking it in rit dye for a few days, washing it a few times to reduce bleeding, and re applying the cloth back to the seat. I did my carpet in rit dye and it came out great. Doesnt bleed off on things when wet or anythin glike people say.
