I would have to agree, check your fuses and if they are fine, check the wiring underneath the steering wheel, sometimes if cars have been rewired the wires might be loose and you easily undo them by quickly accelerating. Hope it helps

Just ran into this problem. VERY firstly unplug your stereo harness to isolate that the problem isn't starting after that harness. THEN just take the time now and ground out your dimmer switch. It will save you the hassle of replacing or grounding it out later so might as well get it out of the way. Second, verfy that you capped both orange wires (illumination) on the stereo side! This will mess your dimmer up very quickly. Last, if those two methods do not work, check the connections behind the steering wheel, take your time, and remove the entire bottom dash its not that hard only 5-6 bolts?

If the fuse keeps blowing, its gotta be a short to ground, or short to voltage; most likely short to ground. For urbansmoker, I'd remove the gauge from the dimmer. I spliced my boost gauge and other gauges into the power mirror circuit and it still dims with the dimmer but there's no fuses being blown.

If the OP can't find anything wrong with what has been suggested then it may be as simple as the bulbs are burned out behind the instrument cluster.

On wiring in extra gauge lights I like to use the orange wires for the radio. That way they dim right along with my other dash lights and I don't have to cut into the factory wiring harness. Keep in mind I have an aftermarket head unit and one of those plug in adapters that go from the stock wiring harness to the aftermarket harness. MI02B | by Scosche Also to minimize the load on the dimmer circuit I also went with LEDS on the gauge lights. Dims fine.

I've done similar. I got full LED interior lighting in my gauges and buttons for the lower current draw as well as to change the color. Didn't use the stereo harness since for whatever reason, I suck at dealing with audio equipment. That's why I went with the cruise control switch.

Cha ching! Link to which wire? Lol pm me. I didn't wrap anything with electrical
Tape so it's drf a short for me.

I installed a radio and yes blew my dimmer... so I capped off all the illumination and the black and yellow rheostat wire, then took the white plug out of my dimmer and put a paper clip in the two middle holes of the 4 point plug wrapped in electrical tape and bam.... dash/gauge lights are back on .... no fire no smoking wires hope this helps

I believe it was the green wire with white stripe.

That renders the dimmer inop... should be careful of rigging the electrics for the sake of fire and smoke. Lucky you don't have that issue yet, but just be cautious of it.

Well it wasnt my gauge after all, i just unplugged ny radio to see whats up theres a green with white wire loose and cut and a black with yellow, are these illumination? If so this could be my issue.

And there is a white tire black stripe.

Edit: put new fuze in after removing plug a radio. Still burnt out. Getting frusturared. I remved all wiring to gauge and taped up the lines that were soldered in to. Can't find these orange illumination wires you talk about

Unpkugged dimmer and radio and everything capped still blows fuzes. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Well after hours under the dash and behind the radio and in the center consol only to find this on the tail light fml LOL all is good now
Sure enough. Peaky green w white stripe wire. Hope others look in this area.
