i am in the process of gathering all the components to turbocharge my 420a and i am trying to decide on an intercooler. i am running on a tight budget so ill be getting an intercooler off ebay which i know and hear that they are great and work fine. but! i do not know the size i need that will fit with my gs front bumper. someone please help. especially anyone who has a turbo 2g n/t. i just dont want to shave my bumper much and i want to fill in that gap for the most part. so any help would be great!

I ran a small greddy 18r on my 2g GST which has almost the same bumper fitment if im not mistaken? If it is, i had to do a little shaving to the inside of the bumper, but nothing excessive.

I don't know about 2g's bumper clearance , but I would suggest to plan ahead and decide, otherwise you are going to be stuck with a inter cooler that might not support you future mods or may not be as effective as it could be. But in most cases you don't have to trim the bumper only the crash beam and about trimming the bumper well, thats up to you.:D

Have you thought of running a 2g sidemount? its really funny how everybody thinks they need a FMIC. You dont really. I would be doing the homework on which size I need for compressor flow. Youd be surprised how quick a 420a will run with a t25 on 8-10psi

hmm all good points, although not to bash your sidemount comment or anything, but i just always liked the front mount because its noticeable and ever since i was younger i wanted mine to be seen like that. what sizes are you guys runnin though? cause i did a little research and i think it was hanh racecraft that had theirs as 24' 9' 3.5'. im going to go with a 2.5 but the other sizing im unsure.

I have a CXRacing same-side 29x8x3.5 and cools 15psi from a T-25 quite well. About a $140 Ebay buy.

Just take some measurements of the hole you "need" to fill, if that's what you're going for. Otherwise, you probably won't need that big of an intercooler.

Just letting you know the small amounts of boost your running less than 10psi its not a good idea to run a HUGE front mount. It may look better but FMIC arent designed to look cool get a billet grill and if your going to go with the FMIC at least go proportional to the turbo and Psi you'll be running.

If you do your math correctly you can be one of the 20% on this site who didnt throw down 5000 to make there DSM quick

Example. T25 run low cfms on around 8psi if you were to stick a FMIC on a 2g with little or no mods it would fun like pooh compared to the stock SMIC.

Just trying to help out

the OP wont ever see 15psi though on a 420a...

thats true i mean im not doing it just for looks obviously but that is a plus. how big or whats the average size of an after market inter cooler in a gsx or the gst cause im gonna be switching out my bumper along the road so if i got the measurements of what the average size is for that model then i should be aight. just as an estimate you know?

I did my own FMIC install and was able to keep the safety bumper intact using a small 6" tall ebay fmic and Ebay CRX Racing piping kit (cutting out notches on either side for piping). Check out my pics on this post: LINK The FMIC was around $60 and I paid around $50 for the piping kit. I did not have to modify the bumper at all and the FMIC is plenty big for my application.

yeah thats a great example right there. thanks kergilman. you said it was a crx piping kit? im having trouble finding a decent intercooler on ebay, any assistance or opinions? as for the piping kit, im still unsure as to how im going to run that but im doing the research so thats no big problem. im going to be running a small t3 turbo, so does anyone know what size intercooler would be optimum for my turbo?

thats basically what i found so far, what do you guys think?

Try searching in "stores" on ebay and search FMIC or front mount intercooler you can get the cores for like $39.95 just takes some searching.

Sorry I ment "CXR Racing piping kit". Make sure you match up the FMIC inlet/outlet sizes to the pipes and couplers you are using and purchase only the same size "T-Bolt" type clamps too. I did have to cut and modify a couple of pipes to fit and was lucky a friend had a pipe bead kit to have beads in the ends of the pipes for tight coupler connections.

That FMIC might work depending on how you mount it, you might need to do some cutting on your bumper.

yeah see thats what i meant. im thinking that intercooler might work as well but im hoping i dont have to do too much cutting you know? yeah im going to keep searching though and i need to measure how much i got to work with. im going to be running 2.5' piping so yeah i definitely cant forget to make sure the inlet/outlet is also the same sizing. if anyone finds anything better than what i found, let me know asap. i feel like im so close to adding that lil..."t" at the end of ma "gs" :thumb:
