Well i did the free mod on my 2g where you take the tube out of the stock intake pipe that blocks the air flow... my Q is it changed the sound of my greddy type-s quite a bit... if i let it off under 8psi about it still the high pitch squeal but when under full throttle all i hear is a little puff/spray i actually can hardly hear it over 10psi just a slight puff sound... is this normal???

Not trying to be a ass but why not just buy an aftermarket intake?
Did you look at the link he posted at all? This has nothing to do with an intake pipe, he's talking about the bov recirc pipe. On a 2g it sticks way down into the intake pipe, and by cutting it will increase airflow/sound.

Aftermarket intake pipes are a waste of money. The stock one is perfectly fine w/ the dump tube cut out. That sound is normal. If you want to get unnecessary attention then, an aftermarket pipe is for you as it will increase the BOV sound.

mine is the same way i have a greddy-s bov and i can barily hear it i did the free mod as well cut the pipe off it helped on hearing the turbo but not for the bov i guess i will need a more powerfull turbo or something.

i do have a air intake kit order off ebay i hope it helps.

Here's what I have found: Even though the vfaq says that cutting the dump tube of the recirc tube will make the BOV sound louder, the majority of what I'm seeing from other members who have done this have said that they're BOV actually got quieter. My theory is that the recirc tube puts the point of exit of the blown-off charge closer to the wall of the intake tube, increasing the sound of impact of the air charge on the intake. With the dump tube cut off, the air loses some of its momentum and doesn't hit the wall as hard, resulting in a quieter sound. Upgrading to a metal intake pipe usually makes it louder again.

Anyway.. that's my theory. It's what happened to me when I cut my dump tube, and I've seen other people report the same thing.

I also have the Type S and I did this free mod as well, and Im seeing the same exact results as you are seeing. Not that I really care about the sound, but now I can never tell if my BOV is just fluttering or if it is set too tight and Im getting compressor surge:confused:
Oh well. A new turbo is on it's way, along with a new intake pipe :D

when i had the stock 2g intake pipe, it made my stock BOV go from being a normal "whoosh" to being a ricey "pshyew!" I think it's a big improvement to cut it out, personally.

I've never heard of compressor surge on a T25 :| . Try adjusting the screw first cause hard will make a fluttering noise. A fluttering noise also occurs on low boost for that BOV. Good luck.

I have an aftermarket intake tube and mine does the exact same thing. Its loudest at low boost and I can't hear it at all above 15psi.

I have my own less complicated theory. Recirculated BOV's need some kind of restriction in the discharge line to make noise. The noise you hear is the air pushing through that stupid twisty stock discharge tube and slamming into the wall of the intake pipe as someone else said. Mine now has a perfectly straight discharge tube dumping into the open air of the largest section of the intake tube. There's nothing to make any noise.

I got my 95 TSI not too long ago and was lookin around this site for things to do to it. I'm kinda low on money (right now I'm lookin to get my other 2 gauges and then install the 3 of them and my pillar). My talon's pretty much bone stock except for a K&N intake and I was wondering if getting rid of the dump tube is a good idea. What exactly does it do, and will it hurt anything?

If you're talking about the dump tube that extends into the intake pipe, yes, it's okay to cut that pipe off. That's the mod that the original poster is talking about. All it will really do is cut out a restriction in the intake, making it flow better, and it supposedly will make the BOV sound louder. However, what I think we've discovered here is, that might not be true in 100% of the cases. Follow this vfaq and you should be okay. FWIW, I cut mine off flush with the wall of the intake, not leaving the 1" or 2" extension into the intake pipe. It's really up to you as far as how much you want to cut.

If you're talking about taking off the recirculation hose between the BOV and the dump tube on the intake, NO, that's not all right unless you have a MAFt and know how to use it.

mine sounds like that too..mine wistles really loudif i let of at aroudn 4-5k or less..anything higher i get the whoosh sound..and i have the same setup

Matt, You're a vagina for making this thread!!! LOL Theres nothing wrong with it, I always knew you were a ricer

hey guys...i might be wrong or i might be right. i believe the guy who did this... http://www.tgilmore.com/talon/dumptube.html .... is saying that the stock bov will be louder, i dont believe it says aftermarket or upgraded bov will get louder. if you check his other links...they're all about saving money. like his $3 catch can which is a great idea and how to make a 1g bov better. if you also check the pics, it shows that he has a stock 1g bov. heres a pic...just my .02

Maybe HIS stock BOV got louder, but for the majority of people who have done this mod, myself included, the BOV release sound got quieter. Also, the BOV in the picture you posted is a stock 2g BOV.

the BOV in the picture you posted is a stock 2g BOV.

thx for pointing that out. but the point he was trying to make was that the stock bov would get louder. i will try it with my stock one and let everyone know if it got louder or not.:thumb:

I just did this free mod last night and I didn't noticed any increase in sound. I have the stock 2g bov with the 16g turbo.
