So the motor is almost out for a refresh, along with a tranny rebuild and some serious detailing/rewiring/rebuilding of the engine bay.

I'm going to do something with the stocker IM, but not sure what. I'm making a new wiring harness to take the injector and TPS wires through the IM, so the "square" wrap-around wire shield is history...and the screw bosses on the IM need to go bye-bye. I'm also thinking about changing the AFPR and BOV vacuum tap locations.

Have any of you guys shaved and sanded your stock IM's? Or sandblasted it? How about powder-coating?

Just fishing for some ideas. I'm not really interested in a SMIM, as I'm aiming to keep as much low/mid power as possible and just don't see it as being worth the money at this point.

I prefer the look of aluminum blasted with extra fine glass beads. This is one I blasted.

I had my 1g intake manifold powder coated at a local shop along with my fuel rail and thermostat housing

Powdercoating won't clog the vacuum nipples. If the person powdercoating has any sense, they will tape off parts on the manifold that shouldn't be coated.

hey turbosax2 did you cut the area in between the runners on that mani?

Here's my shaved 1g mani thats powdercoated. Didn't really care about the wires because I just got my SMIM. This intake is now on my dads car, LOL.

No, it is cast like that, but I did clean up all the casting flash between the runners.

Wow Eric, someone else who is as anal as me ROFL I did the same thing, not that you can actually see any of that extra work once the mani is installed with all the other components around it :tease:

I did the same thing as Eric (well actually I think he copied me :D ) glass bead blasting leaves a like new finish on parts, its great. I left mine bare, now its a summer only vehicle but after 6 months it still loks the exact same (just like Erics pic) :thumb:
