So a friend of mine bought a 95 Talon Tsi AWD in August, and since then he's been trying to get me to get one.

Well, I found one in a nearby town, it's a 1995 Talon Tsi AWD, almost exactly like his, but this one has a rebuilt 6 Bolt motor after the stock 7 Bolt suffered major crankwalk, and a rebuilt Auto Trans with zero miles on it. The problem is, is that the motor and trans aren't in the car. Also, as a side deal he will throw in a front mount intercooler, Innovate LC-1 Wideband controller with sensor, and an extra T3/T4 Hybrid Turbocharger with filter all of which are brand new and still in their original packaging, for $500.

My question is, is how tough is it to get an adapter plate to hook up the trans/motor, and how tough is it to install it, and if I should try and pursue getting it?

**Current Mods/Stuff it comes with**

1st Gen 4G63 Engine, completely rebuilt with all new seals and gaskets
16G Evo III Turbo
Steel Mitsubishi Head Gasket
Ported and Polished Intake
Powder Coated Red Intake
3" HKS HiPower Catback Exhaust
3" Turbo Down Pipe
1st Gen Blow Off Valve
4 Brand New Fuzion ZRi Tires not even mounted yet
2nd Gen Exhaust Manifold
ARP Head Studs
Professionally Rebuilt Transmission with 0 miles on it

$2,200
1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD Turbo
Automatic
Black Exterior
Grey Leather Interior
About 137k on the body

Here's a pic of the motor

It looks like the timing belt cover is off, and no timing belt. How much does it cost to get these?

I would question the integrity of that motor...

Also, automatics don't get crank walk. It seems to me like this guy is trying to dump the car. Just to get the thing off his hands, ya know?

If you have money and are up for a project, I would go for it. But don't expect it to be a piece of pie, or easy as cake! (LOL sorry)

Also I've seen a 2GB Tsi FWD Talon in my town, do you think I should ask about that one instead?

What? I've heard of seven bolt automatics getting cw before?

I'm pretty sure that the swap is the same with an auto trans.

Having a different trans doesn't make a motor problem go away, it makes a trans problem go away that often destroys motors.

Automatic cars are almost immune to crankwalk due to the fact that there is no point where an improperly adjusted clutch can put pressure on the crank when it isn't being lubricated.

For more information on that you can do a quick search or RRE has another article on 2g crankwalk that is very informative if very long and tedious.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I had a 7 bolt in my A/T talon and it crankwalked on me BAD! The harmonic balancer was touching the frame on the side. The torque converter does not lock the crank in one set position. The torque converter can separate from the transmission allowing room for crank walk.

And for your question Primo101, it is not that hard to come across a 6 bolt flex plate. I may have one laying around somewhere. I will have to look and see if I still have one. Since you have the motor and tranny out at the same time, hook them up together before you put it in...makes things 100X easier :)

I already knew that having the motor and trans hooked up before installing into the engine bay made things plenty easier, but thanks :thumb:

As for the flex plate, I'm not even sure if I'm getting the car, so you might wanna hold on to it for a bit ;)

Yes, all engines have the potential to walk but the common problem involving 7-bolt crankwalk is actually a matter of two problems. The first problem is the complexity of matching up bearings to cranks in the 7bolt motors which often causes rebuilt CWed motors to be even more prone to doing it again if they were not rebuilt by someone who was very familiar with motors to begin with. The second issue comes from the clutches on many 2g cars being adjusted improperly from the factory and putting extra stress on the center thrust bearings when they didn't have sufficient lubrication especially during startup. It isn't that the transmission allows a crank to walk, it is that the transmission causes the crank to walk and this is even worse with upgraded clutches though usually when they are installed they are adjusted correctly which helps to eliminate the problem.
