this is my first dsm, and fuel pump went out the other day, and my new one comes in today, and i am just looking for any advice on the replacment process, any tips or tricks that will make it easier, thanks

how about a pump re-wire too while your there.. there is a link in the vfaq

it would be the pump if while driving it sputters then dies, then will restart with the pump whinning like a stuck pig then dieng when the pump whine gets higher, and it has had excessivley long crank while starting since i bought it?

I wouldn't put it on until tonight, I also have a 1g fwd and the fuel pump can be a pain.

The reason for the wait is you need to spray the 6 (if I remember right) bolts on the fuel pump assembly with pb blaster or something similar then let it sit for awhile, then spray it again, repeat repeat repeat. If you don't do this I can pretty much guarantee that you will break some of those studs off (my friend sprayed like half hour before he did his and broke EVERY stud, not fun)

Also for putting the pump back in the tank it helps to lower the tank a little.

is a re-wire needed for an oem replacement? im not putting in a bigger pump till next year, and i sprayed it with blaster 2 days ago and i havnt drove it since because my son rides with me and i dont want it to die again with him in it in this weather. and yes it died on park infront of brody middle school, i live on bell off of 14th but i drive up and down fluer every day

so i started the fuel pump last night, after taking out the radiator because it was cracked during the towing process, and the exact reason why you should have a small amount of beer in the garage, got frustrated with rusty screws (still only have 3 loose) so i turned to my friend bud heavy and befor you know im in the house watching tv saying i will finish tomorrow, damn it, i hate fuel pumps:mad:

hah wouldnt that be nice im gonna see if i can get my hands on a fuel tank today, pic it up after work and then replace the pump on that so i just have to swap tanks:pray:

Which rusty screws are you having a problem with? You need to continually soak them with pb blaster.

Anytime that I know I'm going to be working on my car soon I go ahead and spray all the bolts down, then repeat, then repeat, and by the time I get around to actually doing the work it's soooo much easier. Bolts practically fall out.

Yeah I got some good advice....wear gloves and drain the fuel system properly.

Working with and around gasoline without protective posture isn't a good thing. The first time I did a fuel system on my own, I didn't follow any of these precautions. I was sick for like 4 days.

Don't just take this for granted....it can really mess you up. Just doing a pump shouldn't be as bad, just make sure you wear some rubber gloves and clean of the pump when it comes out the tank. Also, make sure you're in a well ventilated area.

Good luck man, it's too easy.

i only have 3 of the screws that hold the pump in loose, the ig bolt on the ottom of the tank just wants to round off everytime i touch it, and trust me i have been spraying the #### out of it, it just doesnt seem to be working and i am using vice grips to loosen the screws so i can barely get ahold of them, im gonna try and take my torch to them tonight and see if that helps loosen them(yes i know be carefull) i used to work in a shop trust me i have done worse, im about to just drill them out and replace them with new ones:mad:

i have tried using everything on it, and there is no proper tools to use on those screws i have tried i screw driver and the insides just round off like they were clay, i have no other option but to put some sort of heat to them:mad:

i made the mistake of using the original fuel line to connect to the fuel pump. it looked fine then but 1 tank of premium with 10 % ETHANOL distroyed the line and i had to remove the pump again. so do your self a favor and get a new one dollar piece of fuel line

the pump i got comes with a new piece of line and all new oring seals but i cant get the damn thing out, the screws wont move

the little 8 mm that hold the pump to the tank ut on mine they are all screws, on the outside of the tank, i havnt pulled anything out of the tank yet
