hey guys, ok 95 gst.. picked up the car not running with all the valves bent to hell,,
so i ripped the head off and sure enough the valves were all toast, so instead of spending 450 bucks and rebuilding the head i went out and found a 1g head for 175 with 20k miles on it
so just installed it and wired in the 1g cas to my cas and crank sensor ( hard wired )
then i fliped the coil wires from the stock ( 4123 ) to ( 3214 ) because the 1g cas is reverse polarity ( ive done my reading on the magnus and 1g2g roadracing site )
and sure enough the car fired and ran --- now heres the bad part,,, this thing sounds like theres a midget with a sledge hammer in the motor somewhere -- never, ever heard such a knock,, its deff not lifters and i know your all saying right about now its a spun rod bearing but a friend ( much older and wiser then me ) told me it sounds like its coming from the head -- his first instinct was that it was the rod bearins as well but he hears it coming form the head,,
now i droped the oil pan and looked at the oil and theres some debre in there( but its not the bronze shavings ive been hearing about for the spun rod bearing) it actually looks like some of the piston that got chiped off from the first heads valves,, piston 4 got hit pretty bad and 1 got some as well ,, both are not cracked and i know i know i should just throw new pistons in there but this is a budjet build and im not gonna boost the crap out of her
sooooo i read magnus site again for the 1g cas swap,,, and i saw that once i wire the cas up, the key sould be off and the ecu fuse should be pulled
i didnt do this i just swaped my coils around ( oh i even tried 2341 and it ran just as well as the 3214 -- go figure
) soo if i go yank the ecu fuse and disconnect the battery and plug it back in again, could this top end noise go away????
my friend was baffeled that you could just switch the coil order like that and not screw with the cams --- hes a traditional v8 guy from the 70s
and was certain you cant just swap this stuff around,, yet the car runs when there swaped and it wont run a lick when there at 4123
could my 1g cas be so advanced in timing that its causing this noise?? could my 1g cas be 180? i didnt check it because it came off of a running car and only had 20k on it and looked real clean so i didnt screw with it at all
oh its a 89-89 1g cas if that matters,, heard they all work
and the last bit of info i got is that he tried removing the coils one by one to see if we could get the noise to change at all and it didnt change one bit ( ive heard that if the noise changes or goes away on a piston when the coil is pulled its a rod bearing for sure )
and all coils had spark -- he made sure of that as well --
ok well thats all i got -- please help, id love to get this car running so i can enjoy it
thanks guys in advance
ps it still has the balance shaft belt on and hooked up
and yes the car is timed correctly -- its dead on
anyone????
