Is it just me...or is alot of eclipses being sold for very high prices? I mean...i have been comparing everything that i see, to my car, and what i payed for my car and it seems like alot of people are asking way too much! I have a 98 GST, every factory option available, 17" oz chrome rims, beautiful paint, 79,000 miles, body kit, lowered, and some other stuff, and i am not trying to brag or anything, im just saying all of this for comparison purposes, but i do think that my car is very nice and I payed $6000 for it. When comparing this to some others that i have seen, i either got one hell of a deal and completely stole the car, or some people are just insanely out of their minds.

For example, i was looking through the autotrader and seen a 98(same year as mine), with 120,000 miles(40, more than mine), and it was an RS! Yeah it had a body kit, and decent rims to even out with my car. So to make it short, basically the differences were that mine was a turbo GST and his was a NA RS. Mine also has 40k less miles. The guy was asking 9,500 for it..........HELLO..........

Another example, i seen a 97 GSX in the autotrader, 97k miles, automatic, and mostly stock.......compared to my car---> 1 year older, 18k more miles, and mostly all stock. The price: $10,000! The only thing better on that car was that it was a GSX. But does the fact that it is a GSX add $4000 on to the price tag, even when it doesnt have a body kit, aftermarket rims, its older and has more miles?

One more example, there is a 98 GST with 91k miles. It looks like a decent car, and has a body kit and stuff. But...the body kit is cracked in a few places, and the car has an ugly ass black park-bench wing on it with white wheels on a red car...do those three colors match the way they have them??:barf: ...so then, i looked under the hood and it looks like hell. There are oil stains everywhere, nothing is cleaned, and everything looks like crap. The air filter even looked like it has been ran over, and then somebody attempted to straighten it out. Then one of my friends test drove it, and the clutch pedal/clutch or something was so messed up, he had to pull the clutch pedal back because it didnt have enough force to come back after being pressed down. So...same year as my car, slightly more miles, and alot worse shape. $8995, almost $3k more than mine!

Then the last example(this one just really pisses me off on how somebody can ask that much for a car like this). I was looking at it because a buddy of mine was thinking about getting it, but anyways it is a 97 RS, with 127,000 miles. It is rusting on the back of the hatch, and the factory rear bumper cover has been unevenly cut to open up a spot for the giant fart can. So i had the keys and went to unlock the door. First off, the key wasnt going in the lock all the way, so i was like wtf is going on. So then, i kind of hit the key, and it went in the lock assembly, but...the whole lock assembly moved inside the door about a half inch further than what it was. But it finally turned and i got the door open. When i looked inside, it was actually very clean, but of course the dash and center console and everything was painted. It looked decent, but some spots were terrible and had some "fish eyeing" going on. Well, after looking at the inside i opened up the hood. Everything was detailed and cleaned, and really didnt look too bad. Until i looked at the header which looked like it was made by a hillbilly who used super glue to make it, and then spray painted it red. Overall the engine bay looked good except for the junk header. Then i started the car, and the check engine light never went off, and im not sure why it was on. But to compare this car to mine, its 1 year older, 48k more miles, i have the second to best model(GST) with all of the options, he has the base RS with power locks/windows(thats it). His car is rusting, and has some f***ed up door locks. My car has a body kit and chrome rims, this one has no body kit and normal rims. Then the factory body kit or "front bumper cover" on this car had stress cracks through out the whole thing, and looked as if it was falling off the front of the car! This car is also the RS which and has almost no options except the pw, and pl. It even had drum brakes in the back :coy: that were half-ass painted baby blue. To me...i might have payed 3 and maybe 4k on this car if i was very desperate! The original asking price for this half junk RS with very high miles was $8,900! $2,900 more than my car...and come on...do a comparison. Then the guy siad he would cut my friend a deal, and knocked it down to $6,900. After that, he said maybe $6,200. Then today i looked in the autotrader, and they had it advertised for $5,995. But still....$5 less than mine?

I am just curious if our cars are actually selling for these high prices, or if there is just a bunch of stupid people out there trying to rip people off. Honestly, if i went by the prices of the cars i just mentioned, i would assume that i could ask about $13,000 for my car. I know its probably only worth half of that, but for a comparison with the other cars i could easily put it out for that price.

I guess the point of this thread was just to see if anybody else notices that the prices of our cars seem to be very high? Or to see if anybody else gets as pissed as i do when i seen something like what i mentioned going for such as prices!!!! I just hate dumbass's! The sad part is, is that somebody that doesnt know what they are doing will end up buying one of these cars, then 2 years later go to trade it in, then only get 1/3 if not 1/4 of what they payed for. Its a sad world!

I noticed it too. People were asking more for my car after I bought it too. But i think it is seasonall. Prices are getting lower I think... hopefully they'll go back up after all the college kids get their student loans and want to buy a new toy :)

Lots of people have seemed to notice...
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221288&highlight=high+priced+gsx
Those are some outrageous prices for the n/t's though. Some people just don't know any better, both buyers and sellers. Some sellers really try to get their money back on the mods they "invested" in. Thus, you get extremely high priced RS's. I wouldnt get pissed though, but i understand the frustration with some people.

It's not uncommon to see a completely stock GSX go for over $10,000. They're rare, EVERYONE wants one, and they're INSANELY cheap for what they are (turbo AWD) compared to every other car out there. I would say $6000 isn't a BAD price for a modded RS. i would never buy one. I bought my 97 GST with 60,000miles for $7000 and it's not perfect. Small curb rash and the rims didn't match. But i am set on what rims i want so even if the rims were made of diamonds i wouldn't keep them on. i had been looking for a WRX or GSX but when i saw the GST with that low of miles and in that good of condition i jumped all over it. My friends laughed at me becuase they heard i bought a FWD auto. When they saw how clean the engine was the practiclly crapped there pants.

People are going to sell their cars for higher prices than what they're "worth". If you don't your stupid. It's WAYYY easier to sell a car by pricing it high and then saying... i'll lower the prices... just for you though, because i like you and trust you. I was looking for a WRX. It was priced at 14,500. I call say, hey, i live in MI is that the VERY lowest you'll go. We start talking about cars in general and why i want an AWD turbo. The guy says hang on. Talks to his finance manager and lowers the price to $12300. Which is basiclly what they bought the car for. I almost drove to maryland RIGHT away to pick the car up. Unfortunately for me i got my hours cut at work so i didn't have the cash flow for a WRX anymore. THat's why i jumped all over the GST for $7000. The only reason people get that high of price for cars that aren't worth it is because the buyers are way to trigger happy and don't want to wait to have a "sweet" car. If people want to pay that much, that is there problem and my benifit when i get out of college and sell my GST and get my EVO! :thumb:

They are only worth what you are willing to pay for them. They are going up in price because people are willing to pay for them. I bought a 95' gst with a warped head/blown headgasket/no rims/tires and other problems for $5,000. Could I have found a better deal? Most likly. I wanted one right then, And I wanted it to be white so I was willing to pay for it.

I agree with twack, I bought a 1g GS Turbo for $2000. Granted it had a lot of miles but i have run the crap out of it for 40k miles and it still runs like a champ, no smoke, pulls hard and still handles tight. You can get a clean 1g GSX for good prices on autotrader and/or local sales.

So now i kind of agree with 2G_RFF_GST about a stock GSX going for 10k, because of the rareness of it. But i will never agree to the fact with the RS's. The only way i would think a non-turbo RS for 6k was a good deal would be if it was completely modified and everything was completely custom, as if it was something from a TV show. OR, if it was all stock, a 1 owner car, and only had about 40 or 50k miles on it. The most ridiculous one i think is
For example, i was looking through the autotrader and seen a 98(same year as mine), with 120,000 miles(40, more than mine), and it was an RS! Yeah it had a body kit, and decent rims to even out with my car. So to make it short, basically the differences were that mine was a turbo GST and his was a NA RS. Mine also has 40k less miles. The guy was asking 9,500 for it..........HELLO..........
Do you know what kind of a turbo car you could get for that much money?

Yes i know that somebody who has a car might as well ask a very high price for it, because if they sell it for a huge amount of money, then good for them! I just wouldnt have the "moral" to rip somebody off that bad if i had an RS like the one above.

But with all of this being said, and now that i understand where some of those people are coming from (selling it for what people will pay), do you think i would be able to get about 9k out of my car when comparing it to the others that are being sold around here, and the prices they are being sold at? I mean...if somebody was looking through the autotrader and stopping at some dealers and seen all of these high prices on eclipses, then flipped through the autotrader a week later and seen a 98 GST that was all done up, with only 80k miles, for 9k it seems like they would be interested?

You should've seen the GSX in the classifeds section not too long ago. The seller wanted $18,000 for it. Yes that's right 18,000.

What you have is a "fad" price hike for the DSM (and other cars), especially the turbo models which stem from some unnamed movie(s). Now everyone and their brother wants to have a "fast" car because it's cool. Give it a couple of years for a new crop of cars to come out and you'll see prices come down to normal for our cars.

Check out the prices of a MIV turbo Supra....outrageous.

As stated, the cars are selling for what someone is willing to pay.

Its sites like these that are doing this. The bigger this site gets, the price are going to increase because shops are gonna be out of some buisness becaue us do iut your selfers are teaching noobs how to do it themselves. That, and asshole like that one guy on here who killed 2 GSX's and is on his 3rd one. He crashed his first GSX, his second caught on fire because he didnt know how to install a strut tower bar, and now who knows what he will do to his new one.
Learn to take care of you stuff.

Hope fully prices will go down, but as the looks of it, there raising with gas prices.

Like 1993eclipseGS said up there, the cars are only worth what people are willing to pay. I paid 1200 for a 90 TSi with 86,000 miles, Blown clutch and locked up tranny and some other minor problems. I could have found a nicer one with the money i had. But i wanted a black low miles 1g and i found one. I had to buy it LOL. :) :talon:

Can you all say Barret Jackson? Look what those rich fools did to the prices of classic muscle cars. I stood next to a Cuda at the auto show last year that the owner had denied an offer of 4.8 million dollars for. Talk about crazy.

As cars get hyped up and become popular their prices follow them. Like montoya said, MIV supras are a great example.

There are alot of deals to be had but you have to be persistent in your searching. Ebay is also a contributing factor to all of this. Of course modded cars dont hold their value like bone stock cars do. Thats where the real deals are to be had if you really know what you are looking at.

Dave you cannot sell you car unless you already have a backup DSM. I do not recall sending you a DSM community release form.

I agree with Crazed Modder about the gas prices, with the power available of DSM's and the good gas milage to go with it. When I was in the market for a new ride six months ago the three most important things to me were going fast, looking good doing it, and not having to stop at every other gas station. With that said I baught a 96 GST Spyder with some basic mods with 85k for $7k. I thought that was great being that I was selling a Expedition and I would save a hundred a week in gas.:thumb:

exactly... and these days people are willing to pay a lot for these cars, and with options like "turbo" and "AWD" its not hard to see why.

with gas prices now adays people will buy 4 cylinders instead of 6's or 8's. like me for example i sold my passat vr6 for 2000 to my mom and got a eclipse GS for 5000 (modded) and clean record with 98000 miles. it wasnt bad and it runs very well for its miles. so yeah in the summer expect to sell it more for whats its worth. but what makes me happy is more is being sold around here and i know someone who sold thier GS-T for a 2006 eclipse SE v6

I payed almost 10K for my 99 eclipse GS, the OZ edition.... has 64Kmiles and runs great, but I really did think it was a bit overpriced
