Am starting the car tonight, so i disconnect the ignition and cranked the motor....the shop manual says crank it until the idiot light goes out, and connect evertything and start it.......my idiot light will not go out, nor will my autometer guage read any pressure.....ive cranked it quite a bit.......any help or advice?

Well no need to crank forever...that starter could go :p Try this: crank it for about 10 seconds each interval allowing the starter a small break in between. Then after about 6-7 times if the light does not go out then stop. For one) pull of the oil feed line and see if the turbo got its oil. If you are good to go then two) peak under the oil cap and make sure the valvetrain is being oiled up (wont be much at all, so don't get silly with it). if you are good to go there then three) fire that biotch up and have someone out there with you (at leist one guy) so that if ANYTHING goes wrong at all you will be there to kill it. It will be a little loud at first but will quiet down once the oil really starts to coat everything. It may be hard to start since you didn't disable the fuel and you have been cranking it and spraying on those porr wet injectors :) Thats abtou it though.... enjoy

EDIT: guess i wan't the first to see this question asked

First off, giving soem info about your situation would help!!
I am ASSUMING that you have a frash motor and or oil pump, assmbily lube on the motor, or a spark plug in or out will not affect this, but what will is the lack of grease in the oil pump. With nothing in their to prime the pump, it may not pump oil.

Yes probably the fact that the pump was not primed caused the lack of oil pressure . But the fact that he cranked the engine for so long freaked me out and I really want to know if he used Assy Lube that could have saved his bearings.
Heaving the spark plugs out allows the engine to crank at higher RPM and eliminates any load on the engine.

well i got oil pressure now so its all good.........i got a stage 2 block from slowboy, new everything, pump gears, front case......i went with an external oil cooler set up.......just took some time to pump all the air out and get oil through everything........i had the ignition disabled......finally got oil press so i connected everything and started...car ran smooth as hell.......was checking for leaks though.....and sure enough.......its oil was leaking by the crank pully.....shut it off immediatly......cant tell if the oil is leaking from the front case itself, oil pan, or what.....i mean it was a decent leak too....i highly doubt it could be from the front case because the motor was built by slowboy racing and the front case put on by them too, im thinking it was from the oil pan, but ive never seen an oil pan leak so fast....in a total of the minute i had it running probably, there was about a 5 inch in diameter puddle underneath the crannk pully on the garage floor, any clues to what it could be from??

The balance shafts have been removed, all new timing components, oil pump, gears, cover, everything......put 8 grand under the hood this winter, FMIC, 50trim garret......ect.....the only thing that isnt new is the 6 bolt oil pan, i bought it used from a junk yard, that is why i am guessing it is that....im gonna get a new pan from mitsu and see if that helps, but in the mean time an suggestions?? And any suggestions on how to put the RTV sealent and gasket on the new oil pan??? Thanks again guys for the imput on everything, you guys know how it is to have to go through shit like this...every DSM guy does...LOL....thanks for the help.

Doubting the oil pan
with balance shafts removed, your going to get a lot more pressure, and more chances to leak because of it. I removed mine and got new mitsu gaskets for everything, and my brand new mitsu oil pump ohusing gasket leaked like a mo-fo. I had to make one out of some heavy gasket material

Heh, it could be. I've had that happen to me before, for some reason the RTV did not cure, so oil just FLOWED onto EVERYTHING.

I had the same thing happen to me, but I noticed the leak when I put an impact on the oil pump pully and spun it. I built the motor on a stand and before timing it, spun the oil pump with a 14mm(if I remember correctly) with an impact gun. Great way of making sure that you're not going to get any leaks once you get it dropped in the car and it's a female dog if you have to take off the front case.

Anyway, it ended up being my friend put on the wrong front case gasket and didn't notice. Don't ask me why... Mitsubishi gave us the gasket for a 7-bolt. Duhhhh!

could it be the front main seal u think??....gonna take the timing cover off today or tomorrow and see if i can see where the oil is coming from

no short block from slowboy racing........came with new oil pump, front case, main seal and gears installed

yea...timing components are OFH, head...i did all that....but the motor runs smooth...timing is right on.....just dont know where that leak is from

Well I don't understand why would somebody sell a shortblock with the front case installed without the oil filter housing . Four of the front case bolts are the ones that hold the oil filter housing to the case/block so all bolts (including those four) should be tightened in the proper sequence at the same time.

Bottom line there may be a lot of places where oil can leak and things like this happens so the only way to really know where it's leaking is to take the timing belt cover of and look. You should do it ASAP before something bad happens and before there is so much oil everywhere that you can't tell anymore.
Mitch.

yea...im not driving it right now, i have another car, so until i fix it, the car is sitting....thanks for the info....and about the OFH.......i got one for an external oil cooler, cuz i am running an exteral oil cooler set up....

well boys i think ive figured out the problem........like i said before i got the block from slowboy racing....they eliminated the balanceshafts, well......i was on VFAQ.COM and was looking at the balanceshaft eliminator kit install....well in one of the pics, it shows you need to block off the hole where to old balance belt tensioner pulley was....so i was looking at my pics that i took of the new motor before i put it in, sure enough, that hole isnt blocked or pluged with an bolt or anything in anyway.........it says specificly on VFAQ that if u dont plug that hole, you will have a massive oil leak.....i dont see why slowboy wouldnt plug that hole..........going to take the t-belt cover off tomorrow and plug that hole up so i can get this baby running.........thanks for all the help guys

No one reads what I say. WAHHHHHH WAHHHHHHH

Jk man, glad you found the leak.

sorry man, i completly missed that........i must have been drunk or something......thanks for your help man....

As soon as I read the first post on this thread I knew what the problem was. I know this because I did the same exact thing, and it was a bi***. The good thing was that now I have so much practice doing a timing belt it doesnt take me very long at all anymore :)

well, plugged that hole........and still have the same massive oil leak..........what else could it be from?? It is a brand new block from slowboy racing, my only guess is that it could be the front main seal or the oil pump seal?? Couldnt be a head gasket could it?? block and head are new and so is the headgasket and the car ran really smooth, so i highly highly doubt it could be the headgasket, my guess is the front mail seal or oil pump seal.........
