First I'd like to introduce myself. I drive a 3000GT VR-4, with basics bolts ons, bigger turbos, fuel, etc.. Nothing real serious and if I had lots of extra cash, I'd be switching to the world of TD05 on the car to make some good power, but money is not there. I'm seriously considering crossing over platforms. Unfortunately, the way life has tossed the cookies, I cannot afford to upkeep the VR-4 as it should be. I'm pretty much at the point where it will be put in storage, insurance cancelled, and not driven for quite a while until I can support it again.

As it sits, I've thought about selling it, and taking up the hobby on a DSM. My personal preference is a 1st gen Talon, but a GVR4 over that. Naturally, I'm used to a lot of power, so I need to make at least 450AWHP.

I'm used to things being expensive, my "small" turbo upgrade was 1700 bucks for just the turbos. Then the Fuel system, E-manage, drivetrain etc...

I'm guessing the stock block is decent, but I'm not sure what the limits are.

I'd like a solid, reliable setup. I'm assuming....

FP RED or better...
Large Fuel System.... AEM EMS or DSM Link
Shep/TRE tranny
ACT 2600 ( I don't like pucked clutches... ) I'm hoping the 2600 is much like the RPS Maxx Street disc that'll handle 10's ( stock exedy clutch / RPS PP ) good for 600ft/lb's

Suggestions are welcome.... and I know you're thinking... if money is a problem, why are you talking about building a 10-11 sec DSM. ( I'd be dealing with 15k cash ) Comparitive pricing. 3/S's are just more expensive to maintain and modify. And parts are becoming scarce where they are important ( drivetrain )

What other turbos have you considered? I haven't really looked into output much, but maybe a gt35 or 40 is in the books? I know there are a few guys putting on gt42 setups on the galant board, but that would be much less streetable than something a little smaller.

Another thing to consider is engine mods. I don't think you mentioned wanting to do any, and although I have heard of people running 500 hp (I don't think wheel....) you're going to have a lot to consider there. A 2.0 litre will allow you to rev higher and probably better for drag use, while a 2.3 or 2.4 will be much more streetable.

Lastly, if you get a galant and an AEM, I WANT YOUR ECU :)

Good luck!

Sounds like you have a good grasp on what you want. As said before I would look into something like a gt35r or a 3065 or something like that. If you have the money I would definatly go for the stroker motor. I did and I LOVE it. Slowboy makes a great kit made to handle 800whp for under 1500. Can't beat that price. The stock 6 bolt block will be good for around 450whp. After that you start losing parts. I personally have made 447fwhp on a stock 6 bolt but with ARP mainstuds, headstuds and rod bolts. If you are looking to get into high 10's low 11's then DSMLink would be a good setup. You will be looking at needed probably at least 850cc injectors along with a host of other fuel mods to regulate pressure and whatnot. Also the ACT 2600 streetdisc is a great clutch. It's all I will use. I hate pucked clutchs. I had one in one of my earlier cars and the engaugment was to harsh for my liking. Since you are looking at a Shep tranny it would be a good idea since 1g tranny's are known to start going out and losing gears. I would recommend getting the VR-4 first gear, all new forks and double synchro's in a few of the gears. Maybe even a 25% taller 5th gear as well. As long as you do everything right, don't try to cut corners your goal with your budget will be VERY easily reached along with keeping the car very streetable. I would suggest going with some nice HKS 272 cams for the strip as well though. If tuned right they can idle like normal cams. Good Luck!
