i'm finally done with school and should be on my way home on monday. pending if i decide to start work on wednesday, i might be able to head out and watch you guys run. if i feel confident enough in my car (having some idle surge problems and possibly a boost leak)..i may try to run as well.

Is that an AWD to 4X4 conversion? You'll need mud flaps and a gun rack, too. Maybe get a confederate flag painted on the hood!

dave was a close second as I've been watching rally videos lately, and really want to get an old wrx that I don't give a shit about so I can go hunting for trees.

anyways, the engine is out and ready for rebuildin, in the mean time I plan on fixing as much as possible... including that whole two tone-ness

and yes danny, its more than four fingers, Its more than enough for my head
 
woooo hooo! i got my paycheck today! I think its time for me to fix my car, then im going to get a rough tune at 15psi or so (anybody interested in helping tune?" ) then its time to schedule some an hour of dyno tuning at fftec.

Do you guys think for 1 hour of dyno time its better for me to try to get a rough tune at the boost level im looking at running (say roughly tuned 18-22psi) rather than having a well tuned 15psi and have him up the boost and tune accordingly since i'll probaly only get 3 pulls in 1 hour???
 
Ok Im shootin to get out to the track Wed July 11th. Next wed is the 4th, im going to be bbq'n and getting drunk, as well as trying to not blow off any of my fingers/limbs.

Who's down to get out to the track wed the 11th? the 4th is bracket racing, im cool off of that.


I found a boost leak, a big one where my methanol injection nozzel is... Paul kind of jerry rigged it to not leak, and it started leaking. I think i'll just jb weld it on there... The re-check to see how bad my TB leaks... i know the biss leaks and the seals leak... ah what the hell.. i might just order one from throttlebodys.com
 
July 11th sounds good to me! I should have the clutch broken in by then. Spread the word, lets make this a big turnout!

How did you get a hole in the timing belt?

So are people still planning on going this wednesday? I get off of work at 1pm and will head up after (hopefully).

SO yesterday/today, I jb welded my methanol injection nozzle to the intercooler piping, as well as put a vacuum cap on there, and i put on my reconditioned TB from Throttlebodys.com. Started the car up and it everything was fine, the car was running kinda funky and rich, so i checked the fuel pressure regulator/gauge and it was pegged at 60+psi with the vacuum hose on!!! there was fuel dripping out of the gauge haha! so i cranked it back down to ~40psi with the hose off and everything stabled out. Im going to go drive around for a little bit and get my fuel trims in line now that i shouldnt have any boost leaks. If all is well, i might turn the boost up a little and do some tuning. HOpefully i can get a good day of tuning in on Tuesday, since im off. If anyone with better knowlege wants to help me tune *cough*(Dave)*cough*, id gladly drive to you and buy you lunch or something. I just want to finally get this car running properly and tuned!!! ive put too much $$$ in this POS to keep driving it around at 10psi!!!!!!!

So here is my delima... should i keep my faulty FPR in the car and just check it every run to make sure the fuel pressure is correct? Or swap the stock rail back in with stock FPR on there and use that.
Its like switching one problem for another.... One FPR is erratic and doesnt stay set at one setting, but isnt getting overran by the Waldbro 255hp, and the other is accurate and consistent, but will most likely be overran by the fuel pump.

What do you guys think? what would you do? Im thinking stock rail/stock FPR, maybe NT FPR??? Its only going to be until i can fix/replace this F'd up FPR... :confused:

Well... im off to go dial in fuel trims. Maybe do some WOT tuning. Tell me what you guys think!!!



Edit***... Damnit!!! now my alternator is going out!!!, normally i dont care because its an easy swap, but my f'n external wastegate is in the way now... just my luck. I noticed a small misfire the last time i drove my car and now it just goes dead lean when i let the clutch out int gear. When i parked my car i got the "all light coming on dimly" so that should be the alternator, at first i thought the plugs had fouled from the 60+psi of fuel pressure... oh well i'll change em anyways. I have a set of 7es sitting here waiting. Damn... more work on the talon. Here are my plans, alternator, plugs, and stock FPR go on tomorrow, then tuesday its fuel tuning, wednesday, the track for some 12's!!!! anybody have a NT FPR laying around that they want to lend/sell to me? I'll come pick it up today or tomorrow. PM me about it ###!
 
if my tb gaskets come in by wednesday from sbr, which they should...ill be heading out there as well if my boostleak is fixed. hoping to break 12s too
 
I plan to go this Wed, the 11th. I just discovered the coil pack bracket tab broke off again, so I need to find a way to mount the coil pack more securely. I might need another bracket. I might just use a few extra large zipties and strap it to the intake manifold. I'm sure the tech inspector will love it!

Danny, I vote for a stock fpr or NT fpr as a temporary fix until you get a real afpr. The oem fpr will be consistent at WOT, and you can tune out most of the overrun with dsmlink. FYI overrun is worst at idle, then gradually tapers off as the throttle opens and more fuel goes through the injectors, instead of trying to flow all the fuel out the fpr.

I plan on going to the salvage yard Tues for some parts, I'll keep an eye out for a NT fpr.

haha, so on my way into the alternator, i had to take off my external wastegate, and when it came off, 3 things fell off, 1. the gasket 2. the valve seal 3. the valve!!!, So i had to take apart my external and put the lock nuts back on the top of the valve... no wonder i could hear the exhaust dump at VERY low boost.
The alternator, fuel rail, and spark plugs were all easy after that. Except the fact that i only have a short extension for my 3/8" ratchet and i really thrashed my hands against my valve cover trying to get my overtightened spark plugs out.

So now im going to go and tune fuel trims. Hopefull i wont be back in 5 minutes with something else that has gone wrong. Tomorrow will be a boost leak test, and then some boost and tuning. Hopefully i get some clean passes with a nice tune at infineon! Its all i need !!!!! <13.5 @>100mph are my goals!!!
 
damn!!! anybody want to help me tune today? I am really tuning illiterate. I went to candlestick last night and tried to do some WOT tuning and i cant get rid of some knock. The car pulls good and is really moving at the top of 3rd, but i never got past 5000rpm on the pulls because i was getting knock and couldnt shake it!!! The car feels like it takes forever to do a 3rd gear 2000-7000 pull. Probably all the timing i pulled out trying to get rid of the knock.
I want to just go throw in some 100 octane and not have to worry about it, but my damn gas tank is pretty full of 91.

If anyone local knows what they are doing and wants to help hit me up!!!

Fun day at the track today. Pneumo, T9S1i, Savage Talon and Joel (in a MR2) showed up too.

Congrats goes to Danny for breaking into the 12's, and at 15psi only!

So first off, thanks Dave for helping me tune yesterday, i wouldnt have raced my car today if it wasnt for your help man!!!

Second, today was a good day for me. I met all my goals. It was a low turnout and my driving was consistent, so i got 8 runs in.
My first run, i met the goals i had set for myself. At 15psi i went 13.4 @102 with a 1.9 60 ft. Second run 13.3, third, 13.2
On my 4th run, i pulled a 1.7 60ft and that netted me a 13.008 @ 105.4 Man could i taste 12's! The next 3 runs all netted different 13.0's

Finally my last run, if i win this run, i'll be in the finals and get a trophy, but i didnt win. I ran a 12.99 @ 104.8, 1.8 60ft, i shifted a lot faster and pretty much drove the piss out of the car. All these runs were at 15psi with a 50/50 mix of 91/100 octane (96 octane if ya do the math) the only reason i lost this race was the guy in the automatic car next to me dialed in at 15.93 and ran 15.94 haha!! It wasnt a loss to me though because i finally broke into the 12's.

My computer is being dumb and the scanner doesnt want to work for me, so i'll post up some slips when i get this figured out.

Dave and Kahfae got some nice pictures and movies of some of the runs, hopefully they will post em up.

Yeah Danny, your car needs some serious suspension help. I was driving behind you on the way out and I could see the difference in the rear wheels camber. The left side was tilted, the right side looked normal.

Congratz on hitting a 12! I'm still amazed you did it on just 15psi. OTOH I'm also befudddled that you're getting knock at just 15psi with your mods. Oh well, whatever works. Ya gotta roll with it. I'm glad I could help out with the tuning, it makes a big difference.

Edit: I almost forgot, Joel is looking for a 4 bolt rear end for his Eclipse. Anyone know someone who is getting rid of one? Let me know, thanks.
