you better not be talkin about the new block... because i have the handful of the first block here at my house!!!

Hey paul, can you check the stephight on my fidanza flywheel. John from TRE told me I might have to get it stepped right for the act. 608 or something..... i hafta print out the vfaq or rre thing on step height and bring it with me to the machine shop.
Is there anywhere i can get Synchromesh II locally?

Hopefully i'll be able to break the new motor and trans in soon enough for the last wednesday night drag this year.....

new oil cooler is on, so all that leaves to put back on is: fmic, side skirt, crash beam, bumper, outside and inside turn signal housings, and that pretty much covers it until I get danny's radiator/fan. O, and there are still some bolts missing on my fender, but I picked those up from pauls parts car and just need to slap them on (done). And that whole spoiler deal, but whatever.

Yeah, I'm also hoping to get the new clutch broken in before the track closes for the season. I'll drive it to work every day until it's ready.

I just checked the schedule at Infineon. It looks like Nov. 8 is the last day. That's just enough time for me to get my car finished, break in the clutch and sort out the tuning, assuming it's not too bad. Hopefully I'll be able to get some good runs in before the season ends.
How about you guys? How's the work progressing?
Paul, did you want to try a modded chip for your 14b?
Or is there a new, big turbo on the way?

f that, Im not going to rush this pos and break more stuff. Lets work on getting it road worthy before I blow it up at the track.

so when paul pulled my blown motor and seperated the trans/block we got to have a closer look at the damage. He's got some great pictures that hopefully he will post up to show you guys the carnage of the destruction of my #1 cyl. Im very surprised i didnt bend any valves or nick the head.

Also, when we pulled off my 2600 the disc was pretty much done, i guess that from the year or so of pedal slop and the clutch not disengaging fully. So now i get to break in a new clutch with the new trans and motor! yay.... ive just been overhauled! Where's chip foose at to pick up this bill.....?! haha

Hopefully i'll get the car back in the next week, then i can take it hunting with me and rack up a bunch of miles on the car fast. Then smog, then the mods come back on, hopefully before the 8th of November. It seems like a lot of people are scurrying to get their cars up and running for this date so it might be a good turnout of dsms at the last wednesday night drags. If my car isnt race ready yet i might run it in stock form to get a baseline for all the mods that will follow after everythings paid off. And if its really not ready to run yet, i'll be there to watch.

Whats up with everyone else? How are the setups coming? Who's trying to make it to Infineon on the 8th?

"pro-rate" paint job:500

rim repair: 140

245/40/17YR bf goodrich g-force kdw 2's: 8xx mounted

lower radiator support beam repair:???

dent removal:????

credit card limit: never enough

Technically I could come out after I fix the radiator and get those new tires,.... but would I want to show up with a tan bumper, faded black fender, tan side skirt, grey spoiler (missing one part of it), and a HUGE dent?

no

I might come up to watch if dave runs. I personally will be getting a gt35r sometime down the road too, so I want to see how this thing is coming along.

I'm trying to get ready. I got the Talon running last week. I have a leak at the TB shaft that I'd like to fix if I can. There's no 'Infinity Q45 TB shaft seal replacement' VFAQ, so I'll have to improvise. :)
I'm still aiming for Nov 8.

Just for fun, I might take the Laser out next Wed and see how it's doing. I'm sure I'll cut some amazing 60' times now that the front tires are pumped up to 45psi!

is high mpg your antidrug or something?

what tires have proper treadwear at 45 psi?

I guess you could call it my antidrug. It's not like I need a reason to avoid drugs anyway. I spend two hours a day commuting to work, so I need something to do. I prefer trying to improve the fuel efficiency of my Laser without compromising it's WOT power. So far, so good! How does 41.6 mpg sound? I got 571 miles out of a tank of gas. That was a long week, I had to drive like a ####y the whole time! :) It'll be a while before I do that again.

At 45 psi tires wear longer. They deform less, and heat up less.

but doesn't that buldge out the center of the tire, causing uneven tire wear because the sides aren't contacting the ground with as much force, or something....

whatever, lets just ask edwin, hes a tire whore anyways. LOL

I actually have a fwd 90 laser on my to buy list (Im going to go look at it as soon as possible and I might buy it.) its got a broken timing belt, but the guy took the head off and says the pistons are fine but the valves are dead. We have a rebuilt head from taht parts car (swear to god mahesh, DON'T BRING IT UP), although, I haven't taken a look at it yet (LOL, we STILL haven't bought the right socket for the stock head studs). Either way, a new set of valves is cheap for a running car. Blue is not my favorite color though, but it will have to do.

at least its not ### blue like the minivan is. Who makes a car with THAT light of blue paint? they are just asking to get flammed. Although, nissan also made this:

its official, nissan is the ###est car company out there. LOL

When I inflated the tires I put a straightedge across the tread, then pumped them up. They didn't bulge out or anything. The tires were just as square at 48 psi as they were at 32 psi. I don't know if they'll wear differently being that hard. They only have about 1/4 tread left anyway so it won't matter much.

Anyone know a guy named Joel? I got a wierd message on the phone yesterday. He said, 'hey it's Joel. gimme a call, you're supposed to help out with the Eclipse'
huh? WTF

So Ballboy, do you plan on keeping the blue Laser? Or is it just a project to fix and sell?

The weather looks good, so I think I'll take the Laser out to the track tomorow just to see if it's still running strong. Hopefully 8 months of commuting with Lean Burn hasn't hurt anything.

the plan is, get it for as cheap as possible, get it running, HAVE FUN

HAVE MORE FUN

HAVE AS MUCH FUN AS POSSIBLE

might take it to college, then sell it. Hopefully I'll either brake even or make some money. Either way, I'll HAVE FUN.

as for joel, I've heard that name thrown around some, but I've never met the guy.

do you guys really want me to come out? the local rim repair place is a one day thing, and the tire rack only takes like 3 days to get my tires, I COULD make it out there if I really wanted to, but I dunno. I'd rather get her a nice paint job and stuff.

I dont think im going to be ready in time. TRE sent me a trans with a 22 spline output shaft and i have a 23 spline, so you see the problem there. I have to source a 22 spline tcase now so thats going to probably take a while.

if anyone has a 22 spline t-case pm me.

Is Dave running his laser today? I wonder what "project MPG" will run...

Damn... when does Sac CMI close? I want to run my car in somewhat stock form before the winter and when i put the mods back on. I want to have a baseline!

Oh well.... if my car is running then i'll at least try be there to watch you guys run. Its a valid excuse to put some miles on the new setup!

you should make them give you a 22 spline to replace your 23 spline, and pay for shipping. Thats bull shit if you told them you have a 23 and they still sent a 22.

no i told them the build date and shit and they went off that. I think it should have a 22 spline, but my trans was replace sometime in my cars life so it could have all got switched then.

Just part out your car and run that blue fwd brian, then i can get your 22spline. Haha

I'll switch to 23 spline eventually, but not yet... Come out Brian! Dave will be out there too, AFAIK.

Let's just hope it doesn't rain! It rained a little tonight. They stopped running cars for about 15 minutes, then it cleared up. I got in 5 runs before I was eliminated on the second round. My best time was 13.74 @ 109.2mph. I didn't use any race gas this time, just pure 91 octane. I was still able to run 22 psi of boost! :) I also handicapped myself by keeping the tires at 45psi, and I was able to cut a 2.23 60' time once. The other times I messed up the launch and did 2.4 or 2.5 60' time. Tonight was the first time I downshifted. I went 3>2 on the first run, then I followed it with a 2>1 shift on my third run. IT AIN'T FUN! Luckily I caught it quick enough, the SAFC showed a max rpm of 8900. It sure slowed me down.

Brian, just make sure your car runs good, don't worry to much about looks. There was a guy out there with a Teal Talon AWD running mid 15's, plus it had stickers on it, and the fmic was hanging at an angle. OTOH make sure your car doesn't look that bad AND run that slow. :)

I plan on taking the Talon out next week. I just hope the tuning falls into place, and the clutch holds, and the funny noise in the trans isn't anything that might break, and the hose clamps don't pop off the IC pipe couplers, and I don't mess up the throttle body, and...

ok, so I'll try, but Im not making any promises. I'll see what I can do about the rim and the tire then, but Im going to need to get ahold of the guy at work and see if I can use the tire machine. Which is bullshit ### I used the old one at my last job all the time.

as the car sits now, I still have to replace the radiator, make sure the wideband works, buy an exhaust clamp (don't ask), and all should be in good running order. Minus the dents and stuff. LOL

I'll try and swap the radiator today then.

You (or anybody) wanna meet up somewhere in the early afternoon and caravan up?

do you have any idea how much more comfortable I'd feel if I knew someone who knew my car better than I did was following me?

#### YEAH

and so today, I got everything ready except a few things. I want to check the tire pressure on the unmatched 205/60/16r stock tires I have (unmatched, bi***), change the oil (again), and finish replacing the radiator (I left it draining because the thing goes so damn slow). O, I still need one more exhaust clamp, and that should just about do it. The wideband is back in, and the fan motor has been swapped.

FINE, I'll go......

watch me cut 2.0 60' times with awd and a 5k rpm studderbox
