Wazzup everyone?! I think the car will be ready to run again next Wed July 19th. I managed to take out another 85 pounds, and I cut my hair LOL so I'm hoping it's light enough to hit an 11! I had to remove most of the interior, so it's starting to look ghetto, but if it gets me into the 11's it's alright. It was a PITA to make seatbrackets, I went through 3 different heights before I got it right.

The new catback took longer than I expected. It's simple, but nothing lined up right. The old slip-fit joint didn't want to let go, and the new one didn't want to go in. So I just said the majic words,"F*ck this sh!!t" and got out the big hammer and went:beatentodeath: on the damn thing. Here's a pic, what do you think?

damn, I can't make it til the 26th, I told you that already. You can't wait a week dave? just playing. I got my 1000 cc injectors in the mail today. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.... they are so dense compaired to the stockers. I went to moats or whatever and got a 28 pin zif socket, thats the right one, right dave? They sent it yesterday so hopefully I'll get it saturday or something. I still haven't found a place that can socket my ecu, anyone know of a place in norcal that can do it? Dave, I forgot, in case it matters at all, the code has to be for a 1990, not a 91+. I dunno if it matters at all, but since everything else does because mitsubishi felt like moving everything a few centimeters and changing everything by a few ohms or whatever, it might matter for this too. Hopefully it doesn't matter, or you remembered this before you started. After I finish these headlights, get the new injectors in with the new chip, and get my wideband ready, I should be ready to pull much faster times. Now that I actually have some experience, I have no leaking gaskets (that I know of), a short throw shifter, more fuel, and a really nice cold air setup (there are two screws holding my pop up headlight cover on right now, remove that and my 9 inch k&n is sitting right there stairing me right in the face saying, COLD AIR, NEED, COLD AIR. the 26th should be a HUGE green light for me, anyone else going? I won't even need racegas this time (I might use it anyways)

Brian, talk to paul about getting the ecu socketed. There is a cutty tv repair shop near his shop that did his and alex's ecus. I guess the guy knew exactly what ecu it was and everything so it should be kosher. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can always send it out to Dave Mertz at DSMLink. He does wonders with faulty ecu's.

Dave, i like it! Is it any louder or is it still the same? What was your reason for ending the exhaust behind the rear axle? More weight savings?
Whats up with the interior? What ever happened to fast with class?? :p

Well... my motor is in the machine shop. Today i found out that the crank i have had already been cut .10 under so i either have to get a std. crank and get that one polished (i found out the size of the crank AFTER it got micropolished) OR exchange the bearrings i have to get the ones to run the crank that is already polished. hmmmmm the choices, the choices.

Hopefully i'll be back on the streets breaking in my motor in the beginning of august. Then i'll be ready to go hit the track again.

Yes, I shortened the exhaust to save weight, and to help reduce backpressure a little. The new exhaust is 4 feet shorter and eliminates 4 bends. I haven't started the car yet, I've been too busy, I'm sure it's loud.

Brian, sorry I can't wait. Don't forget I still have some nice upgrades waiting to go on the car. This 14B thing was supposed to be just for fun since I had to do a smog check. Then I hit some good times and decided to go for 11's. Now I've gotten a little carried away with it, and I want to get back on track and get the big mods put on. I can't wait! What do you think of a 2550 pound car with over 500HP?! Can you say 5:1 pounds per HP? See what I mean?

Who has experience taking vids? If I hit an 11 I want to have proof. I think it'll be a national record for the fastest AWD DSM with the stock turbo, stock IC, stock injectors, on street tires, in summer, by guys named 'Dave' who still wear 1980's style glasses :)

11's OR BUST! Yeah Dave, gotta get something like that on video. So who DOES have experiance taking videos? Does anybody got a good camera? Danny, you still up for the roll of cameraman next Wed?

Me and Paul are planning on rolling out next Wed. as well. We wanna get some footage of our cars too!

i think i might have to go watch/ tape this.

If ron is going i'll at least have someone to talk to while you guys run. If someone brings a camera id be glad to tape. I have some video taping experience from my skateboarding days so i should be able to keep you in focus Dave, unless your car is so fast that it outruns my panning and zooming. If i could tape someone doing tricks while i was following them riding my skateboard then i think i can stand still and follow your car down the track. As far as editing it and posting up the video, you will have to talk to someone else.

Dave, hurry up and run the damn 11 so i can see the fat turbo setup and go video tape you running a 10!!!

or a 9....:shhh: To me that always looks like someone picking their nose first time around. Kinda like a "you never know, dur dee dur..." thing I guess. I don't really know what it would stand for if it was a smily, but now seems like a good moment for it.

I want to see the gt35r too, but I also want to have hopes for me getting into 11's on the 14b. (Of corse for me, I'll need a built motor with a ported head and larger cams and the works. If my 14b starts trailing off at high boost, I'll probably just leave the wastegate unhooked and if it ever gets negative (umm... yeah, right, 405 cfms of NA vac? even at higher rpms I don't see that happening from a 2.0) I'll design some crazy pressure sensetive intake that opens up the uicp to a second air filter when the turbo isn't producing good enough pressure. Although were talking -20 hg/in before that would start helping, and unless I supercharge my exhaust or something, that isn't happening any time.

I think I'm going for dyno queen 14b style...think I can hit 350 on a mustang dyno? Right now Im probably sitting on less than 260, so I got quite a ways to go. How much fuel does 350 hp take? (injector size) I think if Im maxing out 450's at 46 psi, thats like maxing out 520's at 37 psi (stock), so whatever the most hp you can get out of 520's would be around where I am. Probably a little less.

Between me and dave, we could have the fastest and most powerful 14b (and by fastest I mean, one of the fastest, since there are a lot of FAST 14b'ed cars that are completely stripped) for awd dsm's.

god, Im ranting again.... does anyone actually read what I type? I tend to just get started and never stop.

Don't look now, but I think somebody's going NuckingFuts! WTF

UH-huh
btw, your chip is ready, PM coming next.

hahahaaaaa

Brian, wtf did you say in that post?WTF
man that confused me, and i read it twice.....

you get two nosepicks for that ramble :shhh: :shhh:

:beatentodeath:

Remember, not everyone can run 11's on the 14b... thats why we have crazy dsmgods like dave who set records and see the dsm differently than others... maybe its because hes looking at it through the 80's glasses

Anyways, wednesday.... i want to go, and im going to try to make it... but im broke as hell!!!

Ron how much is it to get in and just watch? I know they upped the racing prices $5 but did they up the spectator prices by $5 too? I guess it'd be a $20 day, 15 to get in and watch history being made! haha and 5 for the damn GG bridge. I think i can find $20 by wednesday.

Does anyone have a real video camera? I have a digital camera that can take about 30 seconds of video with sound, so it's good for maybe two runs if the timing is right. I've never posted vids before, so if I manage to pull off an 11 I will need to learn how.

Danny have you ever gone to Infineon by taking 80 to Oakland, then going North on 80 to 37 at Marine World? That's how I go and it's an easy cruise, tho it sometimes backs up around the Coliseum. I hate the stop and go BS on 19th ave and the traffic jam in San Rafael. Plus the toll at the Carquinez bridge is $3, so you save two bucks!!!! wooohooo!!

or you could go there and take the golden gate bridge, and come back the other way, and its free.... the tolls face the same way, HAHAHAHA...

danny, unlike dave, I'm not pressed for time in running an 11 on the 14b. I'll stay with the 14b til my car makes enough power and my driving skills are above the uber sub par level they are at now. I know its going to be hard, but I've got all the time in the world.

Unlike dave who is busy fisting his new tb from bordom. LOL, just playing dave, I do want to see that picture though.

As for that last post. I don't even know what I was saying, don't worry about it. Maybe I'll read it a couple times and try and edit it so it makes sence. Whatever.

Anybody listen to 107 The Bone? Last Thanksgiving they ran an ad with Sully (the guy with the heavy accent) saying,'I'm so hungry, I'll be fisting on Turkey all day long!'
ROFL LOL

OK so here's a look at an Infinity Q45 TB. I got it on eBay for about $145. They had others listed for less, but I wanted to make sure it came with the plugs and a short length of wires so I could hook up the TPS wires. It has an 80mm plate, and the opening tapers out to 90mm. freaken big!

OH yeah, the new exhaust is very loud at certain rpms. I gotta fly low on the streets. But it's also sooo sweet at WOT! It rips like a big bore motorcycle!

No way am i going all the F"n way to vallejo b4 i get to 37. :notgood: Remember dave, im a pizza delivery driver, i can get through San Francisco faster than anyone else and go the way i want. i'll take sunset to the park then cut through sea cliff and go to lincoln blvd in the presidio to under the g/g bridge and then hop on right at the toll there. 20 min max to the bridge. :p Plus, its like a 20 min drive on 101 to 37 from the g/g bridge with no traffic. Then 10 min on 37 until im in line at Infineon. Thats 1hr flat. If i went across the bay bridge ill for sure hit traffic somewhere on the way to the bridge, then in emeryville, then have to pay for the carquinez (sp??) bridge after sitting in traffic on that bridge. Then when you get right into vallejo and it changes to less lanes you hit traffic again. Then hit 37 and drive on that for 25 minutes after taking like 45 min to get there sittin in all the traffic ive sat in. Then on the way back i have to pay $3 for the bay bridge so its $5 regardless of which way i go, id rather just stay on the west side of the bay the whole time b/c its what i know. ...... and dont get me started on the differences between the carpool lanes. 101 only has a carpool lane going north and it starts at like 4:30 or something instead of I80's carpool lane starting at 3.

Brian, there's no way to get into san francisco from the north/east bay for free. Both bridges have tolls on your way to SF, trust me ive tried to think of this before. Thats why san francisco is the boss hog city of the bay, you have to pay to get in! :p ;)

Dave, nice TB, you probably could have got it for less at the pick n pull in richmond (in the other thread paul says theres one)
I think Alex has the camera that we are going to use. (i think) But bring your camera just in case. I dont have a video camera, but i might be able to ask a friend if nobody else has a good one.

After i get the car back on the streets i think im going to be shopping for a "stock appearing" muffler. Hopefully with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets with a straightthrough Y design in the middle of it (no baffling) for a little quieter exhaust sound while still flowing good and the cops wont be on my rediculously loud cannon muffler. I cant afford to go to the state ref and put my car back to stock after all this money im putting into the motor. I want to enjoy the F outta my car.

so who's actually goin? if its just dave and alex running then i dunno.....
tomororw is my only day off and i have a lot of shit to get done. I might be down, but how many folks are going?

My bad ya'll. I'm flaking out for tomarrow. I had to buy new front axles today which really cut into my dsm parts/ racing @ Infineon money. And my new (and by new I mean used) suspension set up is also giving me issues.

Me and Paul are hitting up the Richmond Pick n Pull tomarrow morning for more used goodies. I'll try to find a reservoir for my methanol kit so I'll try to make it out to the track next week running on meth.

Dave, I'll have to swing by your place some other time to get the chip re-burned.

Sorry for the last minute flake out.

what time are you guys goin in the morning? Im going to be at the shop tomorrow, you should wait up for me to get there so i can grab some dual piston calipers. Im planning on getting there 11 or 1130 so if you are gonna go after that no worries, but if you are going to go earlier you should let me know what time so i can meet up with ya.

If nobody is going to go race besides dave, i dont think im going to go either. I have a lot of errands to run tomorrow after i get back from richmond. I wasnt able to get a "real" video camera from any of my friends so maybe we should wait a week. OR dave, you can go hit sacramento CMI for test n tune on saturday and you will for sure be in the 11s.

If you do decide to go good luck dave, sorry for the flake!

Edit..*** check out http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233890 .
That thread has a pic of this sexy tan 1g with the exact muffler i want. Its the "pina motorsports" sleeper exhaust, i think its a custom job and i tried to e-mail them to find out what muffler it is, but if anyone else knows what it is or finds one like it let me know!

Ron, good call on the Magnaflow #12590. That's what I have with a dual tip outlet welded on. It looks like stock, flows great, and is quiet enough to cruise all day on the freeway without any droning. unlike my current 'muffler' which bangs against the diff on every small bump :notgood: and drones like a blown subwofer playing Nepalese Throat singing. :)

I'm still going to the track today you FLAKES! :) I gotta get out of the southbay before I shrivel up in this heat. I'll let you know how it goes.

OK I'm back. I thought it was cooler in the eastbay? I thought it was supposed to be cooler at Infineon since it's right next to the bay? It was 101 degrees when I got to the track! argh

I didn't hit an 11. I got a new best time for the 14b setup: 12.049@ 113.61, and a new best MPH at 114.22 There was a little tailwind to help my mph. Overall I'm happy with the results, plus the car drives a little nicer with the suspension adjustment I did recently, so the trip was a good one.

I also got to mess around with a fellow DSM'er on the way home. I don't know who he is yet, but it was cool to find a nicely modded DSM cruising down the road.

FYI there's no Wednesday night drags next week, so fix yer cars and get ready for August! The track hooks up good with hot tires.

Dave, talk about baby steps:) Well it's good that even with the heat you went faster. I think a lucky change in the weather will be the break you need.
It's amazing what someone can find with a little searching on the interweb huh. That muffler is just the ticket for stealth motoring. And all the websites even have diagrams showing it's dimensions, so there is no excuse for someone to have a nice 3" exhaust only to ruin it with a crappy 3"in/dual2.5"out design. Danny shouldn't have any problems picking up the correct one.:)

well, dave did wonders to my car today, so hopefully I can manage to get my wideband o2 sensor working (paul, you got mail) and those headlights done by next wednesday, anyone else up for the trip?

btw, driving home I saw a MAXIMUM of 50.7% IDC, and that was running a tad bit rich. Uncorrected (as in I haven't corrected for the maft corrections) were 1066 hz, but dave set the ecu to double duty or whatever (so that the upper limit is 3200 hz rather than 1600) so thats 2132 hz. I didn't even get a full clean pull because the car was sputtering up top from being too rich. After I finish working the bugs out of the wot stuff (I think after I get the wideband working Im going to set the maft into rpm mode for the first time and adjust for a solid 10.5-11 afr.

1000cc injectors are so easy to find out much fuel your using. 50.7%=......507cc's?

thats 97.5% of 520, which was my calculated max flow on the old 450cc injectors with the increased base fuel pressure. Its running a tad bit rich, and with the old injectors I would normally see around 94-95%, so thats right on the dot.

I'm going to give it one more try next Wed, Aug 2. The car's almost ready. I adjusted the camber of the front wheels so they're flat on the ground. Then I tweaked the shifter. I just need to stiffen the rear motor mount and find a way to plug the PCV valve. Last week I did a boost leak test and found the usual internal motor leaks and the PCV valve is leaking again. I also found the plugs and O2 sensor were blown from running leaded gas too long. That would explain the misfires I was getting at high rpm in 4th gear. The center insulator was brown like coffee with half cream. So they were replaced. A quick test drive gave some good SOTP impressions. I'm also hoping the weather is cool enough so the little turbo and IC can make the best power. And I'm hoping that the track is nice and sticky since the FRAM/ Autolite drag nationals are this weekend and track prep needs to be perfect for them. Is that too much to ask? :)

Brian, I'm glad the chip is working out for you. My math shows the injectors flow 940cc at 38psi base pressure, assuming they flow 1k @ 43psi.

I just had an idea, what if I keep the 14b and add the other mods? I'd get flamed for weeks if I put this idea in one of the main forums, so what do you guys think, crazy or what? My mods would be: fully built motor and trans, FP2 cams, big FMIC with 3" piping, sheet metal intake mani, 80mm throttle body, 1k injectors, plus

14b, stock ex man, stock O2 housing. WTF!

found out apparently my parents are making me pay for gas, so there goes some serious cash. The talon has less than one gallon in it right now, and I'm going to paul's shop on tuesday. I think I'll try and go early and stop by the richmond pick n pull maybe. Danny, anyway you can give the non cruise control throttle cable to paul so he can give it to me, and I'll give him the 5 bucks? Are you going to go to video this wednesday? If Dave doesn't make 11's by the time we have to dial in, I'll be pushing his car at the launch to make sure he gets that extra quick 60' time, and thusly an 11 second slip. Trust me dave, with me there, You'll hit 11's, even if it involves swapping rims...

for wednesday I want to get that wideband working and do some more tuning, I got the mid trims to move finally, coasting at 45... 92% and moving downward. So it looks like with those injectors you'll have to lean out the wot more, and the mid as well dave. I drove it to pole vaulting and the high was at like 90%, so I leaned it out 5% and by the time I got home it was at 81.2%, so I leaned it out another 10% on wot, and 5% at mid, but the car has no gas, so I'll have to wait til tuesday when I fill up (death at the pump, we'll call it).

I called this guy I know jon, who has a 2001 trans am ws-6, and I think he said he would be there. (cell phones suck) I told him about the whole blown compressor outlet issue and my bad luck at the track, and he responds, "14.3 is pretty far from 12.8"

so this wednesday, ITS ON!!!!!!!

I'll be bringing a plug so worst comes to worst, I'll uncap my wastegate and plug the vac line that was leading to it. This of corse will be on 100 unleaded. I'll try and hit exactly 0 gallons by the time I get there and fill up with like 2 gallons of 100, then a few more of something lower before I leave.

Dave, do you have a credit card? I only have cash, so I need someone who can pay for me and I'll give them cash.

If I hit 12's and dave hits 11's, I will have one HAPPY, HAPPY day.

I don't know who I want to line up with more, dave, so I can watch magic from the closest seat possible, or jon, so I can watch the look on his face when my inline four hangs with his big ol' v8... especially at the 60' mark when Im hopefully screamingly far ahead of him. Eat my launch... (build like 8+ lbs of boost with that stutter box, THANKS A LOT DAVE, THIS IS GOING TO BE SOOOO FUN...)
