In the middle of removing TB to fix boost leaks

I am taking off TB so I can seal it all up with RTV because im having some leaks that I hear coming from around there. I have the elbow off but the TB wont get past the black box the cruise control cable and accelerater cable come out of. Whats the easiest way to get passed this? Can someone tell me how to either take off the throttle valve lever or how to safely move this black box out of the way in the back? Thanks for your help in advance. I have been looking in the shop manual but can't find anything on it. It says just slide the TB out.

It should just slide out. Did you remove the throttle cable from the throttle body? If the cruise control box is in the way, just unbolt it and move it out of the way.

Just unbolt the black cruise box and move it to the side a little bit, enough to get the throttle body off. Simple as that.

You take off the coolant lines? Those might be binding you up.

Can you be more specific? Did you remove the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) which is on the backside of the tb? Or are you referring to the throttle cable?

There is a how to for throttle shaft seal replacement maybe someone has the link handy for you or you could find it probably with a search. I used it and it was very helpful.

Question, and I'm pretty sure that some others are asking themselves the same thing, why RTV it? Why not just go get new TB gaskets? They aren't that expensive, and I know that most major parts stores either carry them or can order them for you.

Are you sure it isn't leaking from the shaft seals? RTV won't fix those, and it would be a shame to reinstall it with bad seals.

I can buy mine, I went with a N/T throttle body so I don't need my throttle body. It was rebuilt 10,000-ish miles ago.... so I'm told.

I wanted to use gaskets with a little bit of RTV to help it seal, is this not a good idea? I still have my TB out and apart, I took out old shaft seals now I just need to buy new ones. I don't want to just use an o-ring inside the metal peice because they arent in perfect shape after prying them out. I know napa, autozone, advance auto parts, and pep boys don't have it. Does anyone have a part # for mitsubishi dealership? I know I can order it online from machv, but I don't want to be stuck at my g/f's house all weekend. Thanks for your help.

Yea, it was simple. For some reason when I went to do this on my 95 talon the black box wouldn't move enough after I removed the bolts which lead me to believe thats not the way I should do it. However, was an easy solution in this case. Thanks, I feel like an idiot.

Stealership said they don't have them to be sold individually and I have to buy a new throttle body. Haha. I guess I'm going to check a local auto store around here and if they don't have what I need and you guys don't have anymore suggestions then I will order it online with fastest shipping possible.

If you're trying to save time, check out the Freelancer section in the classifieds. You can buy a completely rebuilt TB and then send yours in as a core.

I would do that if budget wasn't so tight. If only I had money, it would all go to this car. Damn gf calls it a POS because I'm broke and can barely afford to maintain her properly. One day i'll show her whats up with these cars. Haha. Ok so once I get her to give me a ride to local auto store, if theres no luck i'm just ordering it online and will get it monday then get my baby back on the street, hopefully feeling alot more lively. TB would hardly hold any pressure when testing. Thanks for your help/suggestions. So is that a yay or nay to adding a little bit of RTV to gaskets on either side of the TB?

They definitely don't need it. Just use brand new gaskets and you're all set. It's OK to copper spray them though if you're paranoid about them sealing.

Ok thanks. Going to use copper spray then. Ordered 2 new gaskets and new seals from extremepsi. Can't wait till monday to get her back together and get home.
