in the middle of assembling my motor and i have a big question

hi guys. i just got my used cyl head from the junkyeard. it was from a 92 talon non turbo. what i did was i swapped over the cams from my old turbo head and it all seemed to go together perfect. anyway my question is that when u line up the dowels and the marks on the cam gears, should all thew valves in the head be closed or should some of them be kinda open. I think that the valves in the head are most def not bent because when the cams for the na motor were installed i remember seeing them all closed at one point. its just too bad i didnt note weather they were set up with the dowels and cam gear marks :(

anyway is everything ok with my head and i can go onto putting the intake manifold on?
 
Some will be open, some will be closed, and some will be anywhere in between. When you set the cams and cam gears, with them aligned, cylinder 1 will be at TDC, so the intake and exhaust valves for that cylinder will both be closed.

edit.. you must have seen them all closed when you had the cams out. It is impossible fo them to be all closed with the cams installed.
 
thanks for all the help man. i think that they are very close too all closed on cylinder 1 but there not totally closed. i believe that the exhaust valves are slightly open. do you think thatt maybe the force of the engine turning the cam will be enough to make them close?

EDIT__ by saying this i mean that cn the force of the cam lobe flipping over help the spring close the valve and this could maybe be why mine dont seal all the way
 
you should really check to see they are bent, or not sealing properly. to do this, remove the cams, and fill the ports w/ water while the valves are closed. then go drink a beer, or pop, and come back, if the water has leaked all out of the valves then you have a problem. if it only has a drop or two, then thats ok. If one port is obviously lower in water after 15-20 minutes, then you have a problem. Do this to both intake and ex. ports.
 
i just got an idea from one of my friends. do u think its possible that since the hydraulic lifters arent fully pressurized with oil that this could be the reason why the valves dont close all the way?
