In the middle of a rebuild and... now im puzzled

I’m putting together my freshly rebuilt block with Ross pistons and eagle rods. I had the machine shop assemble the short block for me. This is my problem, I bought a 4-layer mitsu head gasket and I was just reading up on any special installation procedures I need to take with a metal gasket. The block was milled, and the head was rebuilt 500 miles ago but was milled when rebuilt and was installed with a stock gasket. Now I’m all scared bout this gasket not sealing properly. I’m a full time tech at Lexus and all of our gaskets are metal and never had a problem, but I’m still worried. I have 2 stock gaskets (felpro and Mr. gasket ) and I never had a problem with the felpro but I just want a little feed back before I go any further. Thanks

i just had the mitsu metal hg put on and i didnt have any problems
shop never warned me about anything

im just concerned bout coolant leaks people been talkin bout. i couldnt see why i coudlnt use a sealant aroudn the coolant passages just to help out just incase

If you want to use sealant for a better connection between the head and the gasket it wont hurt. The metal head gasket from mits. is great at sealing pressure and keeping fluid in. You will not have a problem with it at all. I put on on my head for my head rebuild becuase of a blown stock headgasket at 138k. Use the stock tourqe specs for the gasket as well. Its made to crush the same as everything else. good luck man.!

I'm running the Cometic MLS gasket on my newely built motor(exact same specs as yours). I did alot of searching and found that most use a copper spray sealant(copper coat). I used this on mine as i feared the same as you. I think i put 3-4 coats as my head and block did not look to have been machined. No problems so far and i have just a little over 1000mi on the new motor and have boosted it since it had a little over 100mi. on it(11psi for the first 200 mi and then 14psi since).
