Just put the engine on an engine stand and took the oil pan off. Since this is my first 4g63 rebuild and my buddies first 4 banger rebuild we were a little confused....

The long rod and spins off the timing belt and is next to the oil pickup is the oil pump right??? There is one exactly the same on the other side of the crank that I am pretty sure is balance shaft....

LOL I know its stupid but this is the newbe fourm

So the questions i have so far is if that is the oil pump and if it is were do i get new bearings for it??? Also I hear of alot of people removing the balance shaft and i searched around the fourms and it looks like it doesnt hurt the engine at all, is it really hard to do and what is invovled??

Im sure im forgetting some stuff but we are taking it slow and doing the job right!!!

Get a Haynes manuel or something of the sort. Do not attempt tackling the job without one.

About the balance shafts. You can not simply remove the belt and think it will be ok. You need a balance shaft eliminator kit. Check sites sponsors for some nice kits. :dsm:

so both of the shafts are balance shafts? where is the oil pump then? i have a hanes manual also....

I've never taken the B Shafts out. But I do know that the oil pump is hooked into the rear shaft somehow because if you put set it out of phase like on a timing belt job you get lots of vibration.

You can leave the rear one in but you have to remove the front one use an elimantor kit they're cheap. You'll get some better oil pressure when your all done.

This will make you GF very happy becasue it will turn you car into a huge vibrator.

All this will do is make the car vibrate ALOT. If you remove one you have to remove both.

Check this out it has all the info you need.
