In the market for an alarm...

Heya guys, Im looking for an alarm system/remote start for my 92 Talon. What are the best alarms on the market today, and another question aside from that, can I configure the alarm in any way to kill the ignition if someone tries to drive the car away without the key in?

Viper, Clifford, Python just about any of the alarms made by directed electronics are good alarms. If your car is manual it will be harder to do a remote start. Plus most alarms have a starter kill with them so it cant be started with out the key bit you can wire it up as a ignition kill. Actually just about any alarm is a decent one as long as its put on correctly. I install Directed alarms and thats why i say i like them.

Viper 791XV - comes with starter/ignition kill. You can also install 2 switches yourself, one for the fuel pump and another one for the clutch wire. If you get the Viper one, they have a crap load of sensors, like glass break, proximity, tilt, ultrasonic, etc. www.directed.com for more info.

I have the Viper 5000 which is similar to the 791, but it doesn't have remote start, but it comes with 2 remotes, one pager with a shock sensor adjustment on the remote and another 4 button remote.

Holy s**t, that 791XV has a million and one wires, , sounds good. Can you hook up like just the remote unlock/lock and it work perfectly, then add the others down the road?

Im just worried that after I get an audio system, is when the car will become more of a target, but more also cause of the 1gs have the mechanical-electric locks, which are quite easy to get into, which is when Ill hook up the rest of the things, right now I just want remote start and the standard lock/unlock feature, so that 791XV takes the cake, not as expensive as I thought it would be.

The 791 is not that hard to install, I had it done professionally for insurance purposes, but the installation is not that bad, you just need to know where to tap the wires. Do you have a 5speed or an auto? For a 5 speed, you'll have to bypass the clutch switch to start it in neutral. If your car is in gear and you turn on remote start, it WILL move forward and hit something. My wife likes to leave my car in first gear when she parks so I didn't get the remote start, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
