Well I am looking around and pondering over a car right now. Gas just cost too damn much for my 4x4 pickup. I have had a variety of cars (Old toyota pickups, Mustang, 74 Plymouth RoadRunner with a 360 built for the strip, currently a 88 4x4 4Runner). What do you guys love about your eclipses? What do you hate? Would you buy another? How reliable are they, and easy to work on at home?

I'm up in the air right now if I should just drop the extra cash on an eclipse GSX or go for a v6 camaro.

I had a full size chevy pick up and I ended up buying a talon to drive instead

Affordability is such a relative term. ;) Good article though. I'm keeping an eye out but you just don't see many nice things in my area, and when you do people want what over market value.

Most DSM's you find will be a bit overpriced, But paying a little more for a CLEAN DSM is always a good idea. If the car you are looking at is modded, Find out everything about the mods and such. Does the car your looking at have an internet ad? If so post it us for us, If not try and post info about the car for us.

I'm going to be pretty easy to please. My main desires, power windows, and something fun to drive with a standard trans.

Just in the process of looking around right now. Haven't found anything of interest yet, that and also going the route of making sure I can afford it. Gotta love high work loads with low pay.

my first car was a 90 talon tsi awd. ive driven camaros, mustangs, and a few other higher priced muscle cars and i have to say that i would never go to anything but a DSM

My turbo Eclipse is the most fun car I've ever owned. They are easy to work on and have plenty space to work with in the engine bay. Mine has been reliable to me and I can get about 28 mpg on the highway even with all the mods I have. I drive it daily and put about 2000 or so miles on it every month. They are very nice cars.

I agree a dsm is a great choice of a car. If you have car knowledge and it sounds like you do so you will have no problem working out the kinks. But I agree the best place to start is something thats clean and been well cared for its a save on all the headacks. As far as gas mileage I pulled 32 out of mine running 12 psi of boost coming back to school and thats from 500 ft above sea level to 7200ft. Also for 200 bucks and couple hours of work you can toss in an evo 5th gear and get better mpg on the highway.

Don't get a camaro!! The GSX is faster than a camaro and gets better gas mileage.

As for me, In late 2001, I got introduced in the DSM world by a co-worker who had a '90 Ply Laser Turbo that he just had the motor and turbo (16G) rebuilt-and this is a stock Ply..no mods done to it.

He let me take it for a spin....and what total fun of a car to drive, yet didn't know about the DSM world as such even though I do remember when the Plymouth and the Eclipse came out in late 1988 as '90 models.

I loved the body styling, the pop-up headlights, the aircraft cockpit interior (which reminded me of those little Pontiac Fieros-how their cockpits were laid out..), and everything else that was associatied with these early vehicles. In 1992, when the redesign came out to rid of the pop-up lights, that, to me, took away the originality even though I knew it was the same vehicle.

Then, in early 2002, I grabbed a '91 base Eclipse for a cheap price (due to a bad auto tranny), replaced the tranny and had my first fun car to drive.

My sole reason of loving these things is how comfortable I fit in them (being only 5'6") in as well how they ride on the road being that I'm a DD freeway driver, but realized that the 1.8L motor was definitely underpowered for such a rather hefty American built vehicle.

Well, I finally "graduated" to the turbo world with me finding my 90 Laser RS Turbo for $1300.00 . Took it home, did a full belt job on it, (found out that it has a replacement JDM Galant RS motor and turbo) the necessary tune-up, (eventually, needing suspension work and a paint job) and now I definitely have my "fun car."

But, DSM's (and to me alone, a DSM is the 1Ga - the 90 and 91 lines when Mits and Chrysler were definitely working together before the beginnings of separation in 1992 until the total Mits buyout in 1994 to come out with the total redesign of the 2G vehicles for the 1995 year....and we'll definitely forget the 3G and 4G lines .. they don't look DSM at all) aren't definitely for everyone - takes a special someone to really appreciate such a line.

..... and, good luck in your search. - DSM

And also, a 2g gsx should also be faster than an lt1 z28 also. From me and my friend's experiences.

Anyone know what is up with DSM trader? Every email address I try and use is "blocked". Just really strange.

I have moved my search from just GSX to GST also, AWD would be a nice little kicker but I am not going to make it a necessary. Especially if it will net a better car for the same or less.
